Anyone itch like crazy after a spinal block??

I had a spinal block on monday night/tuesday morning and sincehave been going mad with itching all over my body.

Has anyone else had this and if so any advice??

(birth story on announcements!! )

Anyone know how long it will last for?

I had it with dd and it lasted for a few days as far as i can remember - apparently its really common with spinal blocks - cant for the life of me think why though!?!

Yes, I had this - have you taken any antihistamines? That did the trick for me.

It lasted a few days for me. I didn't take anything for it.

yes i did - after i told the anaesthetist this she said there is an injection that you can be given to stop the itching!! It was too late by them mind you but it drove me potty!!!

morphine will have been given in your spine for pain relief, as well as the anaesthetic agent. Morphine is notorious for causing itching.

Yes, yes, yes! I can remember instructing my sister to get the hairbrush out of my hospital bag so she could "scrub" my back! Feeling didn't last more than a day or so...thankfully!

I did and they gave me an injection for it. My block was for a knee ligament replacement, and I wasn't pregnant or breastfeeding, so I got to have all kinds of drugs.

I had it too. It wasnt nice, but only lasted a couple of hours, thank goodness.

Yes, I was told it was the morphine I got for pain relief. Should go after you stop the morphine. I think I was itchy for 2 days.

Well, it eventually died down after about 3/4 days!! It was horrible though..i had to practically strip in public and get hubby to scratch like mad!!
