Hello. I am thinking about choosing UCLH for the birth but I don't want to be checked out the hospital too soon after giving birth which I heard could happen. Anyone out there has got any experience? Thanks

Almost anywhere will get you out asap now. Is this a first pregnancy (you usually stay in a bit longer with a first birth).

Yes it's my first pregnancy so I can't imagine going home after a couple of hours or so. How many days did you spend in the hospital?

I had c-sections each time. Was out after 4 days for my first 2 and 3 days after my last.

I doubt you'd be out within hours for a first birth. Especially if you're breastfeeding (they like to give you a chance to get going). You may find you're desperate to get home- you don't get much sleep on a busy postnatal ward (unless you can get a separate room- I did for the last night with my 3rd).

I was told by friend who is a MW that if you say you don't feel you are ready to go home then the hospital is not allowed to discharge you.

In Bristol, but I was having problems with DS' latch (plus private room was lovely and wanted a chance to bond with DS) so MW said she would keep us in for another 24 hours and then another 24 hours. It was 3 nights in total, and I am so pleased I didn't rush it as managed to get DS breast feeding established...

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
