Has anyone been sterlised whilst having a c-section?

I am not planning a section but definately know I don't want to have anymore children after this one. Have been wondering if anyone has requested sterlisation at the same time as a section. I understand that they can put clips on or tie your fallopian tubes.

I would like to have a "normal" delivery, but if it happened that I needed a section for whatever reason I wouldn't be upset. I will definately have some sort of sterlisation later on (will have 2 children which I have always wanted and have had lots of prev miscarriages and just cannot bear going through anymore).

I hope I don't sound too selfish!

Any advice?

Thanks

My ob cons told me that although the surgeon would offer a sterilisation at the time of my planned c section, I should NOT do it! He was so right. After the baby (no 3) I was v emotional and baby loved up and wd have been gutted to think no more babies. As it happens, we did have another one!

If you want to be sterilised at the same time as a C-section, you're supposed to discuss it and have it agreed in advance to give you a 'cooling-off' period. The main problem with being sterilised at the same time as CS iirc is that because everything is a bit swollen and 'different' because of the pregnancy, there's more chance of it spontaneously reversing. Have you thought of getting your dh/dp sterilised, it is a more straightforward procedure than for a woman.

I was sterilised during my C-section.Easiest way IMO.

That was 2006 after 3 DC's.No problems since.

Thanks for your replies ladies, I will certainly discuss this with MW and also consultant at hospital. I defo don't want to have any more pregnancies - I was told it would be difficult for me to have kids so to have two will be more than I could ever have wished for. I just want to have baby and get back to normal, then resume a good sex life without worrying. It has taken many years to get to this stage, so it will take the worry out of it all to have it done. If I don't end up with section, I will have to have the op later.

Thanks again.
