Had a sweep about half hour ago, she said my cervix was posterior (sp?) so she pulled it forward, she also said that her sweep rarely fail and I have an inducable (sp?) (I cant spell!!) cervix and was 1 and a half cms dilated but this is dc4.

Is there anything I can do to make sure the sweep works? 40+6 and feeling pretty fed up

Hi - I had 3 sweeps when I was overdue a few weeks ago. They said exactly the same - cervix very posterior but the midwives managed to reach it on 2 of the 3 occasions....

I was 2 cm dilated and ready to "pop" as the midwife so eloquently put it... but nothing until I was 13 days overdue and I was induced. But because my cervix was so "ready" (like yours sounds to be...) on induction, within half an hour of the prostin gel being inserted (and my cervix being pulled forward again) I was in labour and gave birth 1 hour 15 mins later - all very quick and it shocked the midwife (and me) a bit! This was my DC2 so if you are on number 4 I bet when the time comes he/she will just shoot out - pulling the cervix forward might just spring things into action in your case? It's awful waiting though - you have my sympathy .

I think it is said that if a sweep is going to work it will work within 24-48 hours. I asked the midwife if there was anything I could do to speed things up after the sweep and she just said to walk about and keep busy. I am not sure it ever really did anything with me but it gave me something to focus on and some hope!!

Not sure this is much help to you but good luck!

I had 2 sweeps, the 2nd at 41+2 which was much more sore vigorous and did the trick within 24 hrs.
I was told by the lovely doc who did it to NOT go home and rest but to get started on "scrubbing some floors"(physical activity on all fours)! I did not do that but stripped a few beds and was out and about with DCs, them on their bikes, me on foot. Labour started 5am, 8 cm dilated when arrived at hospital, DS3 arrived 11 am.

So, be active, consider sex (I know I didn't; was not THAT desperate), hot curry, and as mentioned before on another thread: put your best underwear on that you REALLY would not want to get messed up and it will all happen!!!

Good luck!

I had a sweep and my cervix was posterior and it worked! best advice I can give you is to go for a walk - although it is a bit late.... That worked for me. I had a baby by the same time the next day.

I had a sweep and nothing happened so drank castor oil and orange juice - not nice!! Wouldnt recommend it though unless you are really desperate.
