third labours the hardest?

maybemaybee · 23/05/2008 15:06

I have had people tell me this, and my new midwife told me in her experience there is normally always 'something' in a third or fifth labour, thats not the norm! I know you cant predict labour and third time round i know pretty much what to expect anyhow, but i was considering a home birth. I am 30 miles away from nearest hopsital however for transferring. I have been told this isnt a problem should that happen, but not sure i feel comfortable. How was your third labours, just to humour me?

My third was the easiest by far, very straightforward and very quick, no unforseen probs.

my third was painless until the pushing bit,but that only lasted 3 minutes anyway - felt very odd, sitting at home, munching biscuits and being in labour, when I couldn't feel it!

okay thanks! i have also heard that the 3rd is like your first??? Both my previous labours were text book, good labours. I wonder if it will be third time lucky!

it seems i knew nothing of this '3rd labour is hard' business either. now it is too late and dc3 is due in nov.

i have had 2 straightforward waterbirths previously so am hoping for the same again.

My 3rd was by far the easiest.

My 3rd was the hardest but it was still fast. He was back to back because I was on bedrest from 22 weeks and he settled in. It was the most painful by far. I think they said my labour was about 1 hour 50 mins or thereabouts.

He had problems with his heartrate during labour and they tried to put a clip on his head 5 times btu couldn't do it so it was quite worrying too.

Mine was easiest too.

2 hour labour at home.

Bloody marvellous it was.

easiest..but then all mine were quick and easy

I'm overdue with DC3. No one has told me the third is the hardest - quite the opposite in fact.

tbh I have given up listening to it all - as long as he is OK I really don't care any more . I'm sure by the time you get to 40wks you'll be sick of hearing everyones opinion anyway.

I am 1hr 15 mins (along a windy road) from the hospital and many people have home births as a result regardless of whether it is their 1st, 2nd or 3rd so I think you are just being given a 'new wives tale' of sorts

Hope the thread puts your mind at rest.

Quickest but most painful by far!

Report
maybemaybee · 23/05/2008 16:22

on no sorry BBM dont listen to me i am only repeating hearsay and so far it seems to be rubbish! my first labour as ten hours, second was 7 hours, so i am rather hopeful this one will be around 3-4, even if that means very painful! so impatient!

Oh dear - wondering if I should post this....

My third was longer than my first (which was bloody long itself)). Was 5cm contracting 1 in 5cm Monday 7am, didn't have baby until Wednesday 4pm.

I blame myself for begging my midwife to do two sweeps close together, which sent me into labour too early I reckon (39 weeks 6 days - I reckon if I'd waited another week it probably would have been dead easy).

Yes, I was also told that 3rd labours can be out of pattern for that mum. My first two were long, and I tore badly. My third was fast (almost too fast for my liking!)and I did not tear, despite the LO being a whopping 11lb.

I was told this, but thought I shall wait and see...but as it happens, yes, my 3rd labour went kinda Tits-up and I ended up being transferred into Hospital and had an Emergency C-section after a failed try at ventouse delivery...I had planned a homebirth and dilated beautyfully to 10 cm's, etc...but that was it...

i heard this too, but my third labour was my easiest, 3hrs and ds3 shot out with 3 pushes

my first and fourth labours were the worst, well the first was def worst at three days long, the last one was only an hour and a half, TOO QUICK and it hurt like hell, lovely owater birth tho

That's OK MaybeMaybee - I'll come back and tell you by Wednesday next week (booked for an induction then unless things go quiet beforehand - he has the cord round his neck twice ).

DDs were very long labours - very similar really. Consultant has told me to expect the same from what he can see ont he scan . All three have been / are back to back.

If it all goes a bit wrong on this thread I've seen some fantastic ones about how having three children is great - might be worth a look at those just in case .

Good luck with your pregnancy.

Nope, it was fine, each got easier. Niggles started at 1.45 am, MW came at 5am, DD was born at 7am. 20 mins pushing. Absolutely fine. I remember thinking, 'this is OK. I could do this without gas and air'. Then 'Why on earth would I want to though?!'

DC4 was even easier.

Please do not say this as I'm due number 3 in July

First two were 4hours and 2 1/2 hours so hoping for a fast easy one this time

Report
Mungarra · 23/05/2008 17:34

My third was the longest labour for me and more painful than the second, because my waters didn't go until she actually came out. But really it was straightforward and uncomplicated and just gas & air.

My third birth took less than an hour at home. She was the only baby that fed immediately post-birth and then she fell asleep over me for 7 hours. They don't get much better than that.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

evenhope · 23/05/2008 18:04

My 3rd was back to back and got stuck. MW told me afterwards that 3rd ones are harder.

Report
readytoswiggin · 23/05/2008 18:18

All 3 of mine were easy, straughtforward births. For my second and third babies I had homebirths, which were great. All 3 were waterbirths with nothing else.

I had heard the same, but it definatly wasn't true for me.

Good luck with #3.
