Hi Girls!
Was reading on the internet about requesting midwife to do a sweep. Has anyone had any experience and if so any luck?
I am 38+1 prenant with my second (first was born at 37+3).
Thanks

just had one yesterday- bit painful, like a smear...am 40+9 and she said it's 50/50 as to whether it'll start anything before monday (induction date) as my cervix was 'favourable' but not totally ready to go. Am yet to have a show and am having irregular contractions but have been having them for weeks. MW said it normally takes about 48 hours for it to have an effect.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for a quick response.

I know i still have time to go but as i had some complications after first birth would prefer baby to be born earlier rather then later.

Might give her a buzz and see what she says. Not looking forward to it as she is a bit rough.

Wish me luck ladies!

I had one last wk at 40+3 due to have another at 40+10 on Tues. I found it uncomfortable and experienced period like pains. She couldn't even feel my cervix and said 'baby not yet ready'. I'm hoping if tues comes it will work this time! Otherwise I may not get the vbac I hope for!!

vicky- goo dluck on tuesday, at +10 it should have more of an effect... it needs to be more anterior and lower which it should be by then. Mine was moderately anterior and i was 2cm dilated but apparently if you've given birth before, your cervix never closes completely so 1cm dilated is common even if nothing is happening. False hope!

So just done it! Wasn't bad at all, can't even say unpleasant. Was ok

She said head is all down, cervix is all soft (probably all the raspberry tea i've been drinking ) but not dilated at all

Told me to book reflexologist, so will give it a go too.

Good luck MrsMacaroon I hope you go into spontaneous labour before monday. I have been told they are more successful at 41 wks so I'm hoping it will start something. As I had a planned section last time they will only offer me the gel to induce on thurs So I really need it to work!!
Tco8 hope the reflexology is a success!

unfortunately today I've also developed the cold as well! Can't believe it- must be from my DD who is 2.5, at playschool and always bringing back bugs.

Giving birth with the cold doesn't exactly sound great...eek!

Thanks Vicky- fingers crossed for you, MW told me she doesn't bother at 40weeks, only 41 as the success rates are loads higher.

Hi, have got consultant on tuesday and midwife says they may offer a sweep, had one with first child and it didn't work, she said they were more sucessful with a second child, has anyone experienced this?

Did mine on Friday lunch time and still nothing, so not sure if they work or not. Midwife did say though that it will only work if your body is ready.
