Recipe of the week

penguinmum's creamy fish pie: smoky, seasonal fish in a creamy white sauce with grated, rather than mashed, tatties on top - a meal of the highest comfort-food order.

Useful stuff for dad during labour?

(12 Posts)
Hi all

Happy Easter!

My DH has decided he would like to take along a bag of his own when I go into labour. Does anyone have any suggestions about the kinds of things he will need - spare pants, four-pack of strong lager etc??

Thanks, this has all been v. helpful! (maybe will stay away from DH's ball area though. ) I will be taking some snacks but it does sounds as though he will need something a bit more substantial...
My DH would recommend:
Lots of food and drink
2 pillows
duvet
long book

Just asked DH who has been through some pretty long, drawn out, overnight, labours and he says....

Food (not just snacks, sandwiches are great if you have time to prepare some before you have to go in and there is no facility to get some at 2am at the hospital)
Drink
Change of clothes,
Overnight bag - deoderant, toothbursh and toothpaste etc
Mobile Phone
Blanket

The blanket was because he ended up sleeping in the car after the DCs were born. He was too tired to drive home and there was nowhere for him to get some sleep before I was allowed home.

A change of clothes would have been useful for DH. He was helping me in a supported squat and, ahem, got a bit messy. blush
Definitely food and drink too, although make sure not to take anything too pungent. DH's cheese and onion kettle chips were not great when I was throwing up everywhere.

Phone card, Money for parking, change of clothes and deoderant. I had all for dh. He met me at the hospital as he came from work. He works in a kitchen and always stinks of greasy food, so as soon as he got to the hospital it was shower, deoderant and better clothes for him. I put it in my bag though. He couldn't get over how thoughtful I was. Maybe a bottle of Coke for a caffeine boost. The last thing you want is someone with coffee breath breathing in your face.

ha!
he will need a ball protector as you will ac tively be trying to rip them out with your nails...same for fingers, you will be crushing them to a pulp.

to be honest, it will be useful to you when you want to wrap the bloody thing around his head for getting you in this situation...

I would insist that 100% of his attention be on me...no mags, no ds, no papers, no headphones with music, no bag of is own.

LOL, nice thought tho.

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
