What CDs would you recommend for hypnobirthing or trying to prepare in other ways for labour pains?

I used Gowri Motha's Gentle Birth Method (classes, book, CD) with my 2nd, and then a normal hypnobirthing CD + a single one-on-one sort of refresher session with a hypnobirthing practitioner for my 3rd pregnancy.

Can definitely recommend any/all of that!

Changing your attitude to birth is as important as the techniques imo.

I've been reading Lamaze and Grantly Dick-Read etc and feel very positive about the birth - my worry is that if I refuse foetal heart monitoring (which I want to because I want to be able to move around) what if the baby does get in distress eg if the cord gets wrapped around its neck?

I'm a Marie Mongan fan. Book is awesome.

I didn't really use the cd's that much, as I chose my own music for labor.

Cord getting wrapped around the neck is fairly common, and as far as monitoring you need ask to be monitored intermitantly. I was with ds2 so I got to be up and about for 45 minutes and monitored for the next 15 etc etc etc. It's a good compromise, and if you go into labor naturally than that is probably what will happen.
Go over everything with your practitioner. I asked so many questions, to the point of annoying, but you need to know what policy is, and set a plan up from there.

Thanks - I thought maybe they'd be able to listen every now and then instead of constantly so it's good to know you got that. I am having twins which makes things a bit more complex (in the docs' eyes anyway!) and I have already asked to see the twin birth protocol. Got lots of questions for the obs tomorrow!

BTW - what music did you find good during labour?

I chose 70's rock. Mainly Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, and Moody Blues. Relaxing enough to focus on the birth, but still not waves crashing (not into nature sounds).

Good luck to you.

Forgot to add that even if you are constantly monitored (I was with ds1) the wires are long enough so you can have some mobility. I was able to get up walk around the bed and sit in a chair in the room. So ask about mobility if you are being constantly monitored.

I used natal hypnotherapy for second preg and labour and recently went to one of their study days. Brilliant, really inspiring. They do CDs (which I used) and a course for parents. Pricey but good stuff.

Another Marie Mongan fan. Also, you could try this relaxation CD from [http://www.babyjourney.com/private.htm Babyjourney.com]
