Hi Sheena, an inguinal hernia is where there's a weakness in the muscles in a groin, and an internal organ (usually a bit of the bowel) can push through. It feels like a swelling under the skin, and tends to be felt if theres any increase in abdominal pressure such as standing, coughing, lifting etc. They usually disappear on lying down. Rarely they don't diappear on lying down, but would be accompanied by severe pain, and often vomiting. Men are much more likely to get them, but females can more rarely.
Have you felt a lump, or pain? There are lots of other reasons for lumps or pain in the groin, but they need to get checked out. Please go and see your GP to see what it is, and hopefully put put your mind at rest, or if it is a hernia explain things further. Worrying about something doesn't help. Are there any particular reasons why you are scared to go to your doctor?
