I would suggest phoning your midwife or NHS Direct. You poor thing, how uncomfortable.

quite normal to feel it thru fanjo -- do not worry.. get some lactulose down you ASAP.. you will be fine!

pecka I think this is quite normal although distressing. And you have failed to shock me because I have BTDT, unfortunately. I can truly say that my first poo after giving birth to DD was worse than the actual birth. I waited until I was alone in the house with DD and she was fed and asleep and then managed it by taking it slowly (sorry also TMI from me). Could you take lactulose? This is quite a gentle laxative and would be compatible with breastfeeding (if you are) but also quite effective. Otherwise mention it your midwife.

Well, it's got to come out, so i'd rub plentty of babt oil or something on your tear and other bits and sit it out!!!. Can you 'hold' or press your finger on your tear to keep it in check?

Nooooooo poor you, I was HORRIBLY constipated after DS1's bieth. Send DH/DP/whoever you can grab out to the all-night chemist and get some lactulose (over-the-counter very mild laxative) and guzzle it as per instructions.

Eat prunes, drink prune juice (seriously), lots of it. Eat plums.

Drink LOADS of water

STOP drinking caffeine

Remember you can take paracetamol when bfing (if you are)

Sooner or later you just have to brave it (although lactualose will soften the stool and make it easier)

You can poo in the bath if it would help (I mean, in the warm water, not in an empty bath - that would be madness)

God I do feel for you. I found the constipation more painful than the birth. As DP said at the time, 'You'll never laugh at the lady in the Senacot ad again'

I felt pretty much the same 4 days after having the dts by c-section - was sat in hospital bathroom crying and contemplating digging it out myself with a rubber glove. Got some heavy duty laxitives from the nurse. I'd ring your midwife and stress just how bad it is!

Hi Pecka
your bodys still doing crazy baby things, you still under the care of the midwife? if so can you give them a call? they'll prolly just give you a bit of a laxative and it'll all be over soon enough! (pushing that thing out after giving birth is just plain not on!)

ShakeysGirl · 10/01/2008 21:23

I can always feel it like that when i need to go - i thought it was normal?
If i can't go i just usually push the lump a bit and it comes out

Horse lips when you are on the loo. Blowing raspberries can help relax your spincter. Lots of soft fruit and water too obv. Also keep the plumber's number handy in case you (as others on here have) break the bog with your wunder-turd!

Lactulose requires you to drink so much water about a litre and a half extra I think I would suggest some senna or fibre gel sachets. Also some goog old pile relief cream as it has local aneasthetic in it, it really reduced my agonising screams to a mere wimper.
Good luck, hope you have a speedy delivery.
