I still find myself doing the 'pregnant waddle' or kind of siddling along. my pelvis just doesn't seem 'right' and my coccyx is still sore and uncomfortable. has anyone else had this, does it go away or should i be seeing someone? Didn't have (or don't remember?) this with DS1 at all
ta in advance

hi when i had my son i couldnt get up the stairs by myself for about 8 weeks so know how you feel! It def get better but i went to see my physio as was having treatment b4 i got pg and my pelvis was out of place so they put it back.

If it were me id go to doc but depends on how sympathetic yours is, may do the 'you've just had a baby' chat or may advise physio or something.

Thanks both
Had a normal delivery but it was very fast in the end. MW asked me to move to adjust monitor and i felt DS2 slide down and out he popped after just 15 mins of pushing. although i;ve healed fine I still feel quite bruised and just not right. am beginning to wonder if things are 'out of joint'

ask to see a physio, you may have had something move slightly out of alignment

check to see if your sacro iliac joint is out. This can be caused by childbirth and is also hormonal. It can go as quick as it came, and the bad news is that nothing really works to help the pain.

I went to see physio at 5 weeks as still couldn't walk properly, they were reluctant to see me though as they prefer to wait till 6 weeks plus, but I wept at the GPs and got a referral . But sure enough, a few weeks later it had settled down and I think would have done without the physio ('cos I didn't do the exercises very conscientiously!), and I cancelled subsequent appts as it was too much hassle to go with baby ds in tow. At the time I was really panicky - will I ever walk properly again? - but the healing process really is amazing. Hope yours settles down soon, but if not they should be happy to refer you to physio.

I would suggest getting yourself to a recommended osteopath. I had this after dd1, who was over 9 lb, and the midwives just dismissed my complaints with 'you've had a big baby, you're going to feel a bit bruised'. It turned out to be that the pelvis had not gone back into the right places after the birth and the pubic bone was gaping at the front. This is a particular problem if you happen to be quite flexible jointed.

My coccyx was awful after dd1. I could hardly sit down never mind walk. I had a backache labour, I don't know if that is significant. Anyway it did heal up on its own, but there really isn't enough about this problem in the pregnancy and labour books. It absolutely took me by suprise because I read my pregnancy books cover to cover when pregnant!

It's certainly worth chatting to your GP about this, and you have my sympathy because it is horrible and not what you need with a new baby.

The same problem did not happen with my second child and my back is as good as it can be with two children climbing all over me

With DD1 the midwifes manipulated my legs into some strange positions during epidural and the result was lots of pelvic pain after the birth. For me, it was kind of like when you've sat cross-legged way too long and then stand up, and you feel a bit weak on one side of your hips. Anyway, I had this for a good 4/5 weeks and eventually just started to take ibruprofen and go for a walk. Yes, I'd get back home and feel quite good, then half an hour later by virtually unable to move. But, after doing this a good few times (about 5!) things started to settle.

For a few weeks I could walk fine but not run, then after a few more weeks I could run (not that I am a fan of running or anything, just saying that eventually I could if Iwanted to!)

I am dreading the same happening with this baby and have been told to tell midwifes to leave my legs alone. Fingers crossed. I really did hate to see my husband and by little baby girl going out for walks, and me just waving them off and getting all tearful - I wanted to go with them!

I know there are some support belt things that are available, and if my situation had have stayed the same/got worse, my next port of call was demanding a referral from GP/Midwife.

Hope it settles for you too.
