Hi Ladies, I'm 37 weeks and feeling decidedly odd. First child, hoping for home water birth.

Been feeling like the babies head is on my cervix for days and been having mild period type sensations each afternoon/evening for a few days. Then today I woke up with them, along with belly cramp higher up round navel and feeling very weepy at the sight of BF leaving for work. Desperate need to clean house and prepare birth pool and sit down next to it until the birth but surely it's too early??. Feel very spaced out and childlike, transparent and vulnerable. Quite odd. Lower back aches, dull ache and feeling sensations, not unlike period, from my bowels, though no diarrhea. Perhaps I just need to take myself to bed for a day.
Dont know what I'm asking exactly, just felt the need not to be alone right now.

Morning. Hope you are OK at the minute... The same thing happened to me at 38 weeks, there is no reason to says it's not early labour, but maybe a bit early for the pool yet. Have a warm bath and call midwife if and when the contractions start getting about 10 minutes apart... I know it's scary, but it will be OK I promise! Have you got a tens machine? If back ache gets worse try that or a hot water bottle.

This is exactly how my labour started, although it was V early stages....

Let me know how your getting on

Mmmm, sounds promising

You're 37 weeks, that's term, you're fine. If you can, try and just get on with your day and not over-think it too much, just relax into things iyswim. Nothing wrong with going to bed for a few hours if you feel that might help. Or run a warm bath. Or stay here and chat!

thanks for your replies. am slowly cleaning and it feels really good. Perhaps I'm just creating a nice environment for the next couple of weeks or more of resting and nesting prior to the birth but something tells me something is happenning, albeit it slowly. Feeling incredibly energetic and tired at same time, and if I lie down I can't sleep, though I wouldn't say I'm anxious. Jodiew79 - when you say it was the same for you but v early stages, how long did this go on for you? Were you still a few weeks off or days? Just curious. Body is telling me to clean up and sit down and not be busy with anything but being at home quietly. Perhaps that's all that's going on. Time to rest.

thanks again

lili

I started to get mild back ache on the Weds morning and it became stronger after dinner, I suppose about 8ish. I had a bath and called hospital who told me to put on Tens machine. I went in on Thursday morning as it was getting painful and I was only 1 cm! (don't let that put you off.. I finally had DS on Friday night. It was a bit longer for me as they had to break my waters and DS turned at the last minute to be back to back. But I had a water birth too.. FAB!

Take it easy and if you feel like sitting down then do so (isn't Loose Women on in a minute!) and eat and sleep when you can, as if it is early labour, you never know when the next meal or nap might be

no idea! it's a mystery. It's in the crunching I think. I've got a whole system revolving around ice and our new very pleasing freezer. might start an ice chewing thread just for fun!

I went through hundreds of those plastic ice bags and would panic if there was only one left in the freezer! I've still got a few left, I wonder if I will have the same craving this time round?

I figure it can't be the most unhealthy of cravings so....

Have just read this Lili. It sounds like you are doing the right things whether it is early labour or not.

I didn't crave ice-cubes, but I craved kiwi's and navel oranges and it was about the texture in my mouth that made me HAVE to have them!

Any developments over weekend?

Hi Jodie

Things seem to have calmed down over the weekend so I'm just chilling out at home enjoying resting! Saw mw and she said it could just be a long run up to labour over the next week/ten days. Says baby feels very strong and she's not worried if things start to happen early.
thanks for asking?
I'll keep you posted!
