reoccuring bladder pain since catheter removed following c/s delivery 4 weeks ago

When the nurse removed the catheter 2 days after the c/s the pain was so bad I nearly hit the ceiling. I wasn't expecting to feel anything as the tube was so tiny. I did the required measured wee samples and they were fine, but ever since I have had excriciating pain in my bladder and 'bits' when I need to have a wee. The hospital have done a urine test to check for infection and it is clear. Should I have felt so much pain having the catheter removed and is it possible that something inside has been damaged in the process? Has anyone else had this problem? any advice would be welcome.

Hi Norfolkbumpkin

The tissue which lines the urethra is very delicate and easily traumatised.

Drink plenty of clear fluids and that should help.

I can't speak for other professionals, but whenever I removed an indwelling catheter I found that once the 'bulb' was released I always used to ask the patient to cough!.

Rather than pulling, the catheter was expelled by mum's muscular effort, Hope that makes sense.

Just a little tip for anyone having a catheter removed.

Others may have better tips.

Hopefully the bulb was also deflated initially! Ooooh, that would hurt!

Thanks for the info. I asked the district nurse about catheters this afternoon when she came to change the dressing on my c/section wound (got infected/haematoma but that's another story!) and she said catheters are very soft silicone or something like that so shouldn't ever be painful to remove.
