I am only 3 days overdue but seeing mw today wondered how long overdue they will let me go before saying I have to have baby at hospital. I am loath to have an induction after awful experience last time & also have a 11.5 month old who i am still bfeeding so dont have childcare for him.

I can't remember what my midwife said, but was quite surprised it was so long. Think it was 10 days. Sorry I can't be more precise though. Get your trainers on and go for as long a walk as you can manage and good luck.

Two weeks for me.

It depends on your local health authority I think. Mine you can homebirth 38 to 40+10 from memory, but I think it can vary. Check with your midwife for peace of mind. Good Luck!

Of course you do have a right to insist on a homebirth whatever gestation you are. There are a few women on the homebirth site who've had them at 43 weeks plus. Ask for their reasons why they 'insist' you go into hospital at a certain date and make your own mind up.

Depends on your consultant basically - they start to put pressure on you after about 10 days, although dd was 14 days over with no pressure from the medics. My mw delivered a baby at 40+21, but they like you to go in for monitoring after about 10 days - daily monitoring to check blood flow to the placenta.

I think they said 2 weeks to me too and I was getting all geared up for a fight - they kept on about doing sweeps and stuff as well, the minute I hit 40wks, drove me mad! In the end I just had a stern word with the bump and he obliging came 6 days late. (Or bang on time according to my dates!)

Hope it all goes ok!

well, they can't stop you having a homebirth however far over you are. but you do need to research into what extra risks there may be.
perhaps you could ask your midwife for a sweep or something a bit earlier than usual to try and get things started

Thanks. Back from midwife who has booked me in for an induction next wednesay, 40+12 as they said they wont let me go over. Came out in tears. Asked for a sweep she was very reluctant, told her if she was booking me for an induction against my will surely a sweep would be better to start with. Anyhow I am 1cm cervix is soft but posterior? Am thinking I may just cancel induction. She then took my BP it was through the roof!! I told her I wasnt surprised as she had just made me cry & book an induction against my will. She said they are not that bad- I said I disagreed after last time & I had no child care & was still bfing my DS on demand so it wasnt a pratical option. Am going to try & get some reflexology sorted over the next day or so.
Sorry long rant

HIFTD I had reflexology and went into labour 2 days later. Could have been a coincidence but makes you feel LOVELY and relaxed whether you go into labour or not. Good luck chuck, but you've got AGES yet. Don't worry and a big hug from me.

Yeah, I bet you go into labour naturally before then. If you really don't want the induction they can't make you have it, it's your birth and don't let anyone push you around! It's so awful when people start telling you what will and won't happen as soon as you go over. Fingers crossed for you. I was about to try reflexology but decided to try a bit of last ditch sex and it all kicked off 2 hours later, might be worth a go?

thanks for encouragement. Hubbie works away in week so sex would have to wait till weekend, unless they let him start his paternity leave early & come home & service!!
