i am asking for a friend who has previously had a c/s and is pregnant again. she knows someone who had a scar rupture whilst having a vbac so is obviously a bit anxious about it. i pointed out that i thought that you could still have a rupture even if you had a repeat c/s. is this true or have i completely dreamt this up#?!

I think the risk of rupture is present throughout the pregnancy, as the uterus starts to get bigger. So I would say it is a risk Vbac or repeat c-sect.

I also think there is a risk with on set of contractions.

good website here

the major risk time is during labour, but a uterus can rupture , before or after , it is rare......

it can depend on the incision site of the c.s and whether labour is augmented with synto ..these things can increase the risk of rupture...

sometimes, a scar can start to come apart, dehisence, which is different to rutpure..where the uterus opens at the incision site,

although rupture is an obstetric emergency,m and a catastrophic event, it is rare, and often the baby and mum are ok

there are times when rupture does not end well, and it is a small risk ,but one that needs to be weighed up in relation to all other factors

NICE guidelines to say VBAC should be offered where it is appropriate, and the adage of once a c.s always a c.s does not always hold true now....

I had a vbac just 12 months after my section. I was only allowed to push for an hour because they were concerned about rupture but it all worked out ok - ds2 was born with the help of a ventouse after 59 minutes of pushing!
