Episiotomy scar is not healing properly

I gave birth to my lovely but big baby boy 12 weeks ago. I had to have an episiotomy, half of which healed fine in the first week but then it got infected, and the last bit seems to have scarred over and doesn't want to stick back together. The midwife sent me to perineal clinic before Christmas and they said it was fine and just needed another 2-3 weeks to heal. I then went to see the doctor who said to give it another 6 weeks which I have and it still has not healed properly, and the doctor has now gone on holiday for two weeks.

Has anyone had a similar experience like this? Is there any chance that it could still heal by itself, or will it need to be re-stitched?

It is a bit depressing to think about and it is dragging on a bit now, my husband and I would like to get back to normal in the bedroom but doctor said to wait until it has healed. I'm afraid my husband will be scared of hurting me when we do eventually get around to it, as it is affecting him too.
