Second sweep

Hi
I had a sweep on Monday. MW said that my cervix was quite high but soft and that she had managed to pull it forward. I had a bit of bleeding but nothing else.
I am booked for another tomorrow and wondered if anyone has had a second one work where the first didn't.

Getting a bit fed up now but really want to avoid being induced.
Thanks

I had the midwife attempt a sweep on the Thursday, cervix was very posterior but soft and closed so she couldn't actually do a sweep. A different midwife came the following
Monday and said she didn't think there had been any change, she couldn't reach to feel whether cervix still closed. Contractions started that evening around 6pm, DS was born at 2.40am the following morning (last Tuesday Grin). I had no show, nothing at all, contractions just started and were 4 mins apart from the start! I was convinced I'd have to be induced as I was with DS1, but DS2 arrived all by himself, 10 days late. Grin

Good luck!

Thank you so much for your replies. It's nice to hear some positive stories.
Fingers crossed that this one will be more effective than the last one.
I am more than willing to put up with the discomfort while she has a good rummage up there if it gets things moving.

My DD arrived the morning that I was due to have my second sweep, my first sweep went well but still took five days for things to start. My friend had a highly unfavourable cervix and popped the following day. Hope the second sweep kicks things off for you.

Thanks Dixie. I have air trapped under my ribs and suddenly don't want this baby to come tonight. I am already on so much discomfort. I've been waiting for weeks and am suddenly willing it not to start.
Bloody typical.

Will be amazed if that works. It was barely a tickle. Nothing like the one that I had on Monday when it felt like she was really trying.
So fed up now.

Any changes moonrocks6?
I'm 40+3 today, had my first sweep, followed by a lot of blood, pain and some of the plug.

No change. Have tried EVERYTHING I can think of to get things moving.
It sounds like yours was much more effective than mine panda. Hope everything goes really well. (Not even a bit jealous, on no not me, would never be that petty)Envy

Can anyone tell me about being induced? I am booked in for Sunday if there is nothing by then. I will be 40 plus 11.
Do I take everything with me or will they start it off and send me home?
Can I still have a water birth?

Thanks

Nothing for me today!
I had an induction with DD, you'll have to stay in to be monitored and examined regularly and water birth is not available Sad
I was induced on a Monday afternoon, contractions started coming strong 6.30am Tuesday, she arrived Wednesday 10am. DP was only allowed to be with me during visiting hours until Tuesday night.

Hi I had three sweeps non worked third was just after I was booked in to be induced, I had to stay in when your booked in, however good job, they gave me first presory? I think it's called at 3pm contractions started coming at3:30pm was 5cm at 5pm and beautiful boy born 8:11pm a lot quicker than first labour which was 39hours! Good luck

That's a shame panda. The induction and only having DH there in visiting time sounds horrible.
I have scrubbed every inch of the house to try to get going. Most of it was only done a couple of days ago so didn't even need doing. Would live to avoid induction if I can.
savannah I'm glad yours was nice and quick. Hopefully if it is needed it won't take too long.

Good luck panda. Hope your lo decides to make an enterence soon.

I feel your pain - had three sweeps, none of which worked! Induction was over in under 12 hours from gel passerery, with no need for drip.

I'm 41 weeks today. Went in to start induction on Thursday but when she did the exam she did a second sweep and managed to get cervix to 2cm which is enough to skip the pessary part. So I've been sent home and have to ring at 9 in the mornings to see if I can go in to have waters broken to get things going. I've been achy since the second one but nothing since. Couldn't go in yesterday- too busy with higher priority cases.
Just waiting till 9 now but I bet they're going to say they're still too busy today. I'm fine waiting and glad to be at home rather than in hospital but just getting a bit worried about baby getting too big- dd was born 10 years ago at 40+11 at 8lb 15 and I tore pretty badly.

ohcrepe my hospital won't induce me until I'm 40+12!! Was induced at 40+10 with DD, she was 8lb 13.5 and I didn't tear. I didn't know they could skip the pessary if at 2cm. That's good to know, I was 1cm on Wednesday, had a sweep, having another Monday so I'm hoping that'll get things going!
Have you given them a ring this morning?

Hi yes and Hospital v busy still but will call if it goes quiet if not I phone them at 9 tonight. Will probably be told too busy again then!

Because I'm over 40 (well 40) they bring induction forward as I'm higher risk. But I don't have any other risk factors so I'm not high priority and it could go to 12 days over anyway I guess. I think part of it was being told at 12 weeks I'd be induced at 40 weeks if nothing happens so it's what I've been expecting all along.

Going to have a nice day with the family and not dwell. Could be a lot worse!

0hCrepe I really hope everything goes to plan for you. Do you feel like it's working?

I have to call at 8am tomorrow to see if I can go in. Will be 40 plus 11.
I am a bit worried about things taking a very long time and DH being sent home while I have to stay in.
Fingers crossed for all.

Any tips for induction? Do I need to take anything additional?

I'm actually having quite regular contractions now so will see if they progress!

Induction can take a while if you need pessary first but it's ok. The only thing is if you have the drip you're kind of stuck to the bed so try and keep distracted. You can get mobile drips so you might want to ask for that if you'd like to move about more.

Still coming and quite strong but not getting closer. Phoned triage who said to go in when they're a minute long and I get 3 in 10 minutes.
They're usually a minute long now but about 6 minutes apart. Handy to have an app- didn't have that 10 years ago!

Our gorgeous baby dd arrived this afternoon! After a slow painful start to get into established labour, got to hospital (for a second time after being sent home in the night) weepy and exhausted, started on the gas and air and cheered right up and had a wonderful delivery in birthing pool with dh in with me.
Unfortunately part of the placenta got stuck inside so I had to have treatment in theatre under a spinal block so i can't move now! She's so very lovely.

I was induced on Sunday. Our little one finally arrived Thursday afternoon by c section after a very very long labour and failed forceps delivery.
Tired and sore but so pleased. Grin
Thank you ladies for helping to keep my hopes up til the last minute. Flowers
