how accurate was your growth scan?

I had to have a growth scan at 32 weeks as I was measuring big. Baby was 4lb 10oz which meant I was a week ahead on the chart so this was my new norm.
39 weeks now and going for a growth scan today as I am measuring 2 weeks behind and dropped from 90th centile to 50th.
They said they will induce me if baby hasn't grown. I was induced with my first so really hoping to go natural this time unless baby is not growing, obviously.
So, if you had a growth scan late in pregnancy, how accurate was it?!

Mine was fairly accurate. Baby was measuring big and I didn't want to believe it but he was 10lb 2oz when he was born. The ultrasound scans are pretty accurate but nothing is foolproof. I think they say that the ultrasound can predict the weight but it can be off by a pound either way.

Not in the slightest

I was scanned on day of delivery and they thought baby was 7lb 6oz

She was 5lb 14oz

I had one late as the baby was very big. I was told not to panic when they found DS to be 10.5lbs as the scans can be 30% out either way. That made me panic, of course, as 30% bigger than 10.5lbs is enormous!!
In the end, when he was born two weeks later, he was 11lbs.
So, in my case, they were fairly accurate.

I know its not a very modern thing to say, but the best thing you can do right now is relax and accept medical advice.

Watching with interest.
I've got an appointment with the mw tomorrow and see how my bump is measuring.
I was 1cm above expected at 26 weeks, then bang in the expected measurement at 28 weeks, but my last appointment at 31 weeks, I was measuring under and had dropped a centile line on the chart.
Baby is still moving around a lot and Dd was a small baby (5lb 15oz born at 38 weeks) so I'm not really worried. Could it just be worry over nothing?

Thankyou for the replies, I guess I'll just have to wait and see! Baby was monitored for an hour on Saturday and he's still active so I know he's ok. I just hope they won't have to induce me, I hae way too much housework to be getting on with!GrinBlush

Very accurate with both of mine. DS was 1oz heavier than the growth scan. DD was 2oz heavier than the growth scan. Had both of them 3 weeks early due to growth slowing significantly

Mine was spot on. But I know many aren't. I was induced and it was better than my other two labours! So don't assume the worst. Flowers

Yes, I think I am worrying over nothing! First pregnancy went so smoothy, this time they thought I had a clot in my lung and that I was carrying too much water and all sorts. But all the checks have been fine!

Mine was very accurate, including the measurements. But I know many aren't.

All of them were way out.

DD measured 10lbs at 38 weeks so they monitored me very closely (I'm tiny in height) and I had an obstetrician at the ready for my birth because of the large size expected. She came flying out at 6lbs 4 oz and 2 days early.

My next one measured 10 lbs at 36 weeks but due to my history they ignored this and didn't worry at all. He was 10lbs at birth.

The next one measured 9 lbs at 36 weeks but went for extra scans to check the size. It was perfectly fine at just 7lbs at that point. Born 8lbs 5 at 40 weeks.

Theyre just a guess and even then a guess can be way out.

Ds1 they said was 'average - about 7/8lb' and he was 7lb 7oz so pretty bang on
Ds2 they said was 'bigger, closer to 8/8 and a half' and he was 9lb 2oz so a little out

I'll let you know, hopefully soon. They predicted 7lb11 at 39 week scan. I'm 40+1 now so will hopefully find out soon. DD was 7lb13 but I didn't have growth scans with her

but that actually only makes you 1 week behind (1 week ahead cancels out with the other week if that makes sense).

I think part of the problem is that like in life people don't grow at a uniform rate, nor do they in pregnancy.

and I am surprised they would be concerned about 50th centile. below 10th centile yes but 50th?

Really don't worry about it, growth scans are notoriously inaccurate.

I was scanned at 28 and 32 weeks for diff reasons and estimated weigh was around 7 1/2 pounds, then again on due date, eat weight 7lbs 6, DD arrived five days later at 7lbs 10, so pretty accurate for me. Good luck, hope you get the natural birth :)

They kept telling me DS was going to be big, they were worried, I'm only small. The predicted 11lb 5oz at 38weeks by scan. My midwife however looked at the report and went no this is wrong, felt my bump and said "he's about 7 and a half pound, what are they on about?". She rang the hospital and queried it, they were adamant big baby, she just rolled her eyes and put the phone down, said don't worry to me, he's not that big.

DS arrived at 40+4 weighing.....7lb 10oz. I'm going to ask that woman for lottery numbers if I see her in the surgery hahaha

The sonographer at my 41w scan's first words were "ooh, this is a big baby" - he was 7lb 12. Pretty average, towards smaller size considering he ended up being 10 days overdue.

Very accurate - they said 33 per centule and she was born on about that (between 25th and 50th).dont worry too much tho they are known for being 30% either way.

Best of luck xxx
