Hi, new to this so bear with me..
i have to get induced on 30th june. My edd is 9th july so will be 38+5.
The midwife gave me a sweep yesterday (24th) and said my bishops score was a 4..
posterior cervix, soft, 2cm in length, 2 cm dialated, and -3 station.
Bishops score where i am is based on a 1-10 if your a 6 they will break your waters straight away.. anything lower they will need to use other methods. I have already had one child and labour started spontaniously*
What do you think my chances are of my bishop score increasing to a 6 before induction.. and i know its a guessing game but if i am still a 4, how long do you think the whole process will take?
please help me asap very anxious.
*sorry for any spelling mistakes

As a midwife, the chances of success with induction after a previous successful labour are very good. I would guess around 90%. Spontaneous labour might happen if you can encourage the head to descend a bit more, walking, ball sitting, stairs. Anything that promotes bra xton hicks also encourages it, prgasm, inter course.
However, the labour hormones flow best if you can relax. So don't get too tense about this.

Thanks alot for your reply!!!!
I have tried next to every thing apart from castor oil. Long walks uphill and down hill, rlt, intercourse, a bit of nipple stimulation, running up and down stairs ect.. babys head is engaged but keeps coming up and down (not out of pelvis) i have been 2/5ths and then a few days later back to 4/5ths. What do you think chances are of natural labor before induction? Thanks again xx

Don't bother timing. They'll make themselves known if labour is establishing. Do nice distracting things instead.

Contact the midwives on Monday if no change and see if another sweep is possible.

I've given birth 6 times.
Seriously just relax.
That babybis coming when she's ready. Shes not ready. Rest. Eat well. Sleep as much as possible...

Enjoy your last few days of peace.

Good luck. Smile

Out of sheer curiosity, why are you being induced early?

Reduced fetal movement

Once you are in established labour, spontaneous or induced, it's likely to progress quickly. It's that " in between" stage that's hard. I know it's difficult but try to detach and enjoy this peaceful bit.

It's like being at the airport waiting for your flight. Checking the board doesn't make it quicker, just seems even longer!

Is my bishops score a good thing? Like on average what is the lenght of labor when iduced with a score of 4? I am rather anxious of being in labour for 2-3 days, with my first i went into hospitial at 4cm at 12.30pm and had her the same day at 6.17pm?

Bishops score is only a vague predictor. Early changes have happened that is good. Going from that to active labour in someone with your history could take an hour or two. Or it could take longer.

You can't control this bit!

While they check you could ask for another sweep for a little hormone surge.

Would they give me one that soon? I only got one 2 days ago?
