dp staying sober from 37 weeks

Did you make dp stay sober from 37 weeks so if needed he could drive you to the hospital?

Yes. Well, I didn't make him, but I did ask him to.
Just as well too, DS was born at 38 weeks and we had to leave very early AM. If he'd been drinking he wouldn't have been able to drive.
Yes, I know taxi's exist, but is it that much bother to not drink for a short time to make sure you're able to drive.

I think if you have to ask him to, you have bigger problems than him not drinking just before you give birth.

No. But he doesn't drive. We got a lift from my dad with dc1 and a taxi with dc2.

My DH stopped drinking of his own accord - he said how mortified he'd be if I went into labour and he couldn't drive me because he'd had a drink. Lucky as I went into labour at 37 weeks!

No but DH can't drive due to his eyesight, gets drunk on one glass and is quite a funny drunk.

He would have sobered up by the time I gave birth after 24 hour labour first time around.

No, he doesn't usually drink in the evenings but we did go out one night and he drank then. I guess we'd have got a taxi if things had kicked off.

No, I didn't make him do anything. He was a responsible adult and decided on his own that staying sober would be a sensible idea.

AveEldon were you not bothered about getting a taxi or having to ask for a lift? Or does your DP not drive?

No but my DH rarely drinks and if he does it is generally just the one.

No, because he can't drive. We went to hospital in a taxi and saved loads in parking charges.

Oh, and my two labours were 5 hours and 3 hours respectively so again, good job he was sober from the start!

Not "drunk"? Yes.
But under the drink-drive limit? No.

We are in a city with taxis and also I was in labour for at least five hours before we even considered going to the hospital.

Yes, and that spanned Christmas and New Year. He was a bit aghast as it hadn't occurred to him but I pointed out that if I'd done 9 months, really 3-5 weeks wasn't a huge deal and, with where we live in relation to the hospital and lack of taxi availability, there'd be a strong possibility he'd actually have to deliver the baby .

No but my poor dh, was sent by me to his best friend's wedding, a 4hr drive away on ds2 due date and didn't drink just incase.

Ds2 arrived at 40+10 so he could have as well.

My ex went out on the piss while I was being induced because it would "be a while yet".

No, I didn't even think of it until he said one day after a Christmas do that he had better stop drinking now so he could drive us in (DD was 12th Jan). I was glad he thought of it!

we are in London so plenty of transport options are available
not everyone goes into hospital in the evening
if you have a partner who isn't sober during the day then you have other issues imho

No, my waters broke at 38 weeks after oh had been out on the piss. He had only just got home, so had to get his mum to take us.

He was very hung over while I was in labour for over 36 hrs. The Dr sent oh home as he was a wreck. I got checked a few hours later and the new Dr demanded I have a emcs straight away. Oh was passed out at home and his dad had to go and wake him. Only just made it into theatre......only to leave a couple of minutes later because of the amount of blood.

No but we knew we were getting a taxi. And to be honest DH was thrilled to suggest that me being pregnant meant he couldn't drink so I would feel less alone (he's not keen on alcohol)

As it was, both times we went in early morning and I was in labour from the night before so plenty of warning.

I didn't ask DH to stop drinking but he self imposed being sober from 37 weeks - I was due at Christmas so he decided he'd stop December 1st. The boys at work even moved their Christmas night out to November so he could go & have a drink.

No. But he doesn't drink much and almost never gets drunk. It's pretty rare that anyone would have to go to hospital as soon as labour started - in the vast majority of cases there would be plenty of time for sobering up to happen.

The second time we agreed he would, as the first time DS1 arrived at 37 weeks at 3am and he was over the limit, so I had to drive us to the hospital with my broken waters leaking everywhere!

I'm 38 weeks and haven't asked DH to do this as we'll be getting a taxi anyway.

I'm ok with him having a couple of drinks although I'd be furious if he got drunk - fairly confident he wouldn't do that though!
