Which hospital - Peterborough, Notts City or Lincoln

For DS1 I ended up transferring from Grantham MLU to Lincoln for an EMCS.

I am now pregnant with DC2 and while Lincoln was fine last time I now have a choice to make about where to go this time. Given I am expecting an elective c-section this time around I am interested if anyone has any experiences in these hospitals? particularly of postnatal care, the wards (or ability to get a private room!), help with establishing feeding, food (which was awful at lincoln!) etc.

Lincoln has the benefit of being able to have my scans in Grantham hospital which is closest, but I have a feeling the other 2 hospitals have better reputations, newer facilities etc. So any opinions would be gratefully received!

I had DS at the QMC in Nottingham. The postnatal care was fine, ward was very hot and noisy, but I imagine that is the case in most hospitals. Some midwives were helpful, others not so great. I was transferred to a private room after two nights. Food has always been terrible for all my stays (x4), but there are several cafes/shops including a Costa near the entrance where it is possible to buy food.

Quite a few people I know opted for City Hospital in Nottingham and were very happy with their experience there. All being well, I will be having DC2 later this year and going to QMC again as it is a bit closer than City.

Peterborough shiny new hospital, ward food okay and on site cafes for partner/other visitors with tea/coffe making facilities (no charge) in delivery / antenatal ward area. Plentiful parking and delivery ward gives you chit so max daily rate of £2.60. Only stayed 1x overnight on antenatal but very big rooms with 4x patients and toilet/shower so no queuing in corridors. Possible to get private rooms post birth at a cost - roughly £50 a night I think. Hot and can be noisy - but less so than places with larger wards.

I had DS at Peterborough, I also had the choice of Lincoln or Grantham mlu. My midwife said Peterborough was the best option. I was induced at 40+12. Ended up having emcs. The care I received was fantastic, the facilities are great. 4 beds to a room with each room having its own toilet & shower. Shower has a seat which was very helpful after cs. Lots of support for feeding. Staff were all very friendly, caring and supportive. Food was fine, there is a costa on site too. You can get a private room, not sure on the cost. We did think about it but as there were only 4 beds to a room decided against it and a bit of company was nice outside of visiting.

Nottingham city is terrible they basically just leave you and don't see you for hours. You never know whats happeneing and always claim to be "full" or "busy". I ended up discharging myself during induction as I had, had enough of being left in rooms for hours when someone would say they were just getting a doctor to break your waters legs a kimbo won t be long 2 and half hours later still waiting..... I had my daughter at qmc the care was good but I had a district midwife and she was useless and was only bothered about paper work. My husband had to tell her the babies head was there and that I was haemorraging as she refused to believe either until he was like no really the head is there. The blood is pouring out of her. Having discharged myself from city I went back to queens and the midwife I had with my son was amazing, she actually worked there and wasn't covering so Im hoping with my 3rd I will get a decent Midwife during this labour. The food is terrible at both hospitals take as much of your own as you can

Thanks so much for all of the answers, I was in two minds between Peterborough or Lincoln but think after the good reviews of Peterborough above that I will go for that! The idea of a private room sounds good too. Thanks!

I am local to Peterborough so my options were pilgrim or Peterborough and I chose Peterborough for both.

However I only gave birth in Peterborough once. The labour ward was closed when I had Dd as it was so busy and I had to go to kings Lynn queen Elizabeth. I was also transferred to Sheffield when I went into preterm labour with Dd.

Apart from that issue Peterborough are lovely.

I gave birth to ds in Peterborough and they were wonderful. Even fetched me another bread roll when the soup didn't agree with but the bread did

I don't plan on giving birth in hospital, however Peterborough is my local and my friends who have given birth there all say good things.

I was turned away from Peterborough as it was full (September baby though) which was a shame as the pre-care there was super. I've never met a miserable or unhelpful member of staff there but they do admit how busy they are all the time. I was even high risk on the list for induction but that kept getting put off until I eventually went into labour and had to speed down the A1 to Huntingdon.

I had my baby in lincoln 7 weeks ago. Staff did what they could although i almost got sent home an hour before i gave birth as they didnt examine me and thought my contractions werent long enough! Being on the ward wasn't great , did get left to it pretty much with feeding, food still is bad and peoples partners were allowed to stay so i had to listen to the loudest snorning ive ever heard all night!
