Hi there,

I saw an old thread asking about the Royal Surrey Hospital but from 2013. I am due in April 2016 and need to start discussing hospital options with mid-wife.

Do you have any experience or knowledge of this hospital's maternity ward? Any inputs would be much appreciated!

Thank you

Hi there,

Royal Surrey was an option for me but on the advice of my midwife I picked Frimley Park. I'm not sure if that's an option for you but I can highly recommend it. The staff were all fantastic, friends of mine have also had good experiences there. I'm due to have my second child there in Dec and hoping to try out the brand new 'home from home' section of the maternity ward which opened this year. Proper beds, bath and ensuite in each room.

hi
i gave birth at the Royal Surrey a couple of months ago and spend two nights there when I was 38 weeks pregnant. Can't rate them highly enough. The maternity ward is completely new, all the delivery rooms have been renovated and have birthing pools, bean bags, birthing balls etc. The midwives are all lovely, supportive, caring and very helpful. I have not met one single one there that wasn't great. They had read my birthing plan and really tried and respect all my wishes where possible. Overall I had a positive birth experience. The follow up care was great too and I called the ward twice with problems and received great advice over the phone. Overall I can highly recommend it.

I also went to two birthing classes there which were good too. I would say go and have a look, they offer tours of the ward.

Hello! I am 31 weeks and under the care of Royal Surrey. I am under consultant led care due to a placenta issue. Been very impressed by them so far - they seem to be thorough and professional and the scanning equipment is top notch.

Had to go into the antenatal ward for monitoring after an (entirely accidental) blow to the abdomen a couple of weeks back. All of the midwives were really lovely but they were so, so busy. Although there was an awful lot (ten hours one day!) of waiting around / lack of information this seemed to be because all hands were on deck due a series of emergencies so couldn't hold this against them. The wards themselves seemed very clean and well looked after and everyone who dealt with me was completely lovely. Smile

Thank you so much for your comments, it is making me feel better already! I had my first mid wife appointment last week and now waiting for scan confirmation from hospital. Not sure when this is meant to arrive but I will be visiting the hospital in the next three weeks :)
