anyone else had a womb infection after C Section?

I had a non-planned, but non-emergency, C Section almost three weeks ago.

I have still barely left the house (apart from when my husband drives us to his mums house at the weekend, where i just get out the car and flop on her sofa instead of my own sofa).

My belly is still very very sore. I am taking 3 diclofenac per day, and paracetamol every 4 hours day and night.

My scar has apparently healed very well but the midwife I saw on Monday said she thinks I have an infection in my womb which is causes the soreness and tenderness in my belly. She can still feel my uterus in my belly (higher than it should be) and it's very sore when she touches my belly.

As a result of the MW visit, the doctor has prescribed me two types of antibiotics which I have now been taking for 36 hours.

Thing is: my belly is still really sore :-(

Does anyone know how long it would take for antibiotics to start working? When should I start to feel better?

And should I still be lying around the house in my PJs like an ill person?? Or should I be making more effort to get up and about now? What will aid my recovery more??

If anyone else has felt like this after a c section I would love to know when you started to feel better. Am so fed up! Have a toddler as well as a newborn (luckily the toddler is still at nursery 4 days per week at the moment but that is dropping down to 3 soon and no idea how I will cope then, if I don't feel better).

So sorry to read that you are poorly.

Antibiotics usually start to take effect after 3 days, so you need to be patient for a little while longer. You ought to rest in the interim.

Usually, getting up, doing light activities (e.g. a short, gentle walk) are useful to your recovery from as soon as you feel up to it. For example, I had an uncomplicated ELCS and took things slowly around the house for one week, then a short walk with the pram to the end of our road one day, then a little further the next, then to the shops. I was driving by wk5, then started post-partum Pilates after wk6.

The 'getting up and about' thing is different for you because you have a uterine infection. Your body is fighting the infection so you must rest. Only once the infection begins to slacken off can you gently resume activities.

It takes about 12w for internal wounds to heal in uncomplicated cases. Your recovery will take longer.

Remember to eat lots of protein and green leafy veg (iron, vitamin K) to enable your tissues to heal. Be kind to yourself and you will get well soon.

Take care and congratulations on your little bundle x Thanks
