Childbirth

Has anyone been early with their first but gone over with second?

I'm driving myself slightly crazy here. 40+6 now. I had a planned home birth but the more the days go by the more I think it's not going to happen.

My first was actually early and really straightforward so I wasn't expecting this.

I'm wondering if it's usual to be early with first but end up being induced with second.

Me... #1 came at 38 weeks. #2 came at 40+5 and the consultant wanted to induce me at 41 weeks (I was seeing consultant privately, and apparently they don't like to let you go more than a week over).

#2 was massive - 10lb 11!

Goodness me! But you didn't manage to go into labour though? You weren't induced?

I'm hoping for a home birth so being induced would be the worst thing.

Me, my DS was a week late, the wait was unbearable. I was hoping for a home birth and got one a little quicker than I'd wanted - first twinge to baby flying out (caught by DH) was 1 hour 45 mins....2nd babies really can come fast, get community midwife out as soon as things start (mine missed the whole thing and couldn't get their in time for placenta/stitching etc either so I transfered to hosp)

Yes my DC1 was a week early and DC2 was a week late. The day before both were born I did a really long walk and I'm convinced that's what started things off! DS2 was a really short labour compared to DC1 - only three hours from first pains to her being born.

So there's still hope for me? Feels as though I'll never go into labour atm.

Yes get bouncing on a birthing ball and do lots of stompy walking about!

(if you're able of course - it is a bit warm today! Smile)

Yes. First 36.3, second 27 (whole other story), third 41.3. I begged to be induced and was monitored daily for the last 10 days. Arrived, had a pessary, not much happened, agreed to syntocynon drip providing epidural put in first. Contractions started as epi being organised, synto not used, waters broke, 8lb13oz baby an hour and forty five minutes later. Bright pink and screaming, apgar score of 9 plus. Fabulous!

Yep, DS1 38 weeks, DS2 40 +12.
But I went into labour naturally 2 days before my induction was booked and had a very efficient labour.

Sorry yes, I went into labour naturally with #2 - waters broke in the early hours of the morning (same as with #1) and he was born 1hr and 45 mins later!

Thanks all, you've given me hope that it will happen!

Lots of quick labours too.

Some big babies, my first was big early so don't even want to think about the possible size of this one.

I'm 40 + 3 with 2nd - first was 40+14 so I'm hoping this one will come soon too.
Not really responding to your question, just to say I'm also overdue and getting impatient, esp as my first was induced and even tho it was fine I really want to go into spontaneous labour with this one.
Am sure you will get the home birth you want, just think positive thoughts and get walking up and down stairs!! Good luck
