Car-free: How to get to the hospital in labour?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to get to the hospital when our baby comes as we are car-free public transport folks. New to the area so don't know folks nearby and heard it's not considered an emergency for ambulance purposes. We live in Richmond as well so my dial a cab plans are a bit trickier.

Richmond doesn't have mini-cab firms?

Worth checking out cabs- where we used to live, NO cab firm operated between 2 and 6 am. However, the MW could call you an ambulance if you needed it.

Chat to the MW about it, you're hardly the first in your position.

I lived in a small village in the middle of nowhere when pg with dd and didn't know anyone who could help me if I went into labour and dh couldn't get back in time (over an hr's drive away). My Health Visitor said she would take me, or if she was unavailable to phone the gp surgery and someone from there would take me.

Obviously that was in the daytime - she said to call an ambulance in the evening.

we called a cab and they got us there very quickly.

I walked to the hospital. Usually it's a 25 minute brisk trot. It took me an hour and a half, but it was actually not an issue at all. The movement was good for me.
