Any advice on antibiotics during labour - specifically diarrhoea - I don't want to have to give birth in the loo :-/

I have tested positive for GBS and will have antibiotics during labour. I'm worried about having diarrhoea as last time I couldn't have cared less if I'd pooed but diarrhoea is different :-/ Any experiences to share?

I had antibiotics in labour for GBS and didn't have diahorrea. I know antibiotics can cause diahorrea, but maybe that only happens if taken orally?

I've had antibiotics in labour twice for gbs and not even a tiny poo either time Smile

Oh thank you that's really encouraging :-) Was wanting a water birth too so hopefully I can go ahead with that.

They said no to a water birth to me (but, to be fair, I was induced first time around and didn't ask when I got to the hospital second time around) so ask but they might say no.

Yeah I have heard others say they were told no initially. My midwife said it should be ok and I think it's different to when you are induced as the iv doesn't have to stay in all the time which I guess would rule out being in a pool. Well I'm not set on it so I guess I'll wait and see. One week to go (hopefully less)

I've been told that I can have IV antibiotics while in the pool. The consultant is happy with that. The only thing she was bothered about was that I'd agree to the telemetry for continuous monitoring as I have gestational diabetes. They are not at all worried about me having a cannula in whilst in the pool.

NoRoomForALittleOne that's good to hear. I will definitely ask for a pool.
