C-Section Infection - Advice Please

I had an emergency c-section 2 weeks ago. I was allowed home on the Monday evening, by Wednesday I had a painful lump in my right hand side above my pelvic bone. The MW visited me on Thursday as routine and I mentioned the lump, she had a feel and said she thought it was bruising and it would probably settle. The following Tuesday the lump had got bigger and more painful, also there appeared to be more lumps which were tracking from right to left. They are all above my incision by at least 1/2 an inch or so. The MW recommended that I saw the GP. Following my GP visit I was given Ethrymycin (sp!) to take as she thought it was an infection.

By last night the pain in my side was really bad meaning I couldn't hold baby to me or rock him. We went to see the Triage at the hospital who have now prescribed more antibiotics which are targeted to infection of the skin etc. They said that they didn't think the lumps needed to be drained and that the antib's should clear the infection up.

What I was wondering is has anyone had this lumpy infection above the incision? I have had a look at the threads but can only find advice where the incision is infected but my infection seems much higher. Also, how long would you leave the antibiotics to work before you went back if the lumps are not improving?

Thanks in advance,

Sorry to read this, OP.

I don't have any experience of what you describe, but, I would return to see the GP if:

  1. You have an instinct that things aren't better 1-2 days before your course of antib's are due to end and/or
  2. You develop a temperature/feel unwell/the incision area becomes more tender to touch.

An EMCS can be traumatic, so I understand (I've had one assisted VB and one ELCS). Just keepnin touch with your HCPs and don't ignore anything that you think isn't right.

Congratulations on your new baby Thanks and get well soon!
