My dd2 was born in 12 minutes! I reached the delivery room at 2.08am, she was out by 2.20am! (my dh did actually think she was going to pop out in the car, and went over roundabouts and round traffic to get me there!!)

not that quick!

from waters breaking to dd1 being born, 36 hours (24hours were a non-event).

dd2, from waking with contractions, to birth about 2hours 45 mins i think.

dd3, from ARM to birth, about 3 hours.

Three and a half weeks and 16 minutes
Is it a competition?

Report
ludaloo · 22/10/2006 09:20

Well...contractions actually started 55mins before we got to the hospital...it is a 25 min drive to get there..so 12 mins is just pushing time
3 hours wasn't bad though..
My dd1 was ten hours...
ds was about 23 hours as he kept stopping and starting...took a lot of walking round the hospital!!!

With dd my waters broke at 2 am the morning of the first and she was born at 3 am the morning of the third, so I did 48 hours. the first part was stop start, but I did do 18 hours of contractions every 3 minutes! And still she would only come out because I had a section

10 hours with DS - induction ending with c.s after no dilation !

DD - 7.30 am contractions started...to hopsital at 6.00 pm...to be told not dilated....DD OP..she turned at 10.00 and i gave birth 3 1/4 hours later...so technically labour 3 1/4 hours as not dilated before then!

I think you need to quantify when you consider labour to start...
as if you DD was born in 12 mins on way to hospital.. how long were you at home for before you thought this might be labour...
Equally some women with irritable uterus will say they had days of labour...

From induction to birth, 36 hours. From established labour to birth, 24 hours. From epidural to birth, 12 hours!! And I ended up with a C section! God am I jealous reading your posts...

i thought i would have been a contender for longest till I saw suzywongs - respect

me - 4 days. yes i know that all of it wasn't technically full blown blah de blah. But ds was OP and v painful so that was 4 days without sleep, NONE AT ALL, so i'm counting it!

Good point pupuce.

Both my labours were timed from different starting points. dd was timed from when contractions were getting strong and I asked for gas and air, but ds was timed from when my waters broke which made it seem like a longer labour.

With DS (first baby)

50 hours from first regular, painful contractions.

24 hours from waters breaking

3 hours from Synotocin and bloody epidural only working on one side! (that seemed much longer!!!)

ds1 - 8 hrs from 1st contraction, 45mins pushing (becasue I was being a wimp!)

ds2 - 1hr 45 mins from 1st contraction, less than 5 minutes pushing because I wanted him out!

Yea... when is labour technically starting? I remember reading somewhere that it's from you're 3 cm dilated, but for me it took 8 hours of serious contractions before I got to 3 cm... I remember bursting into tears when midwife told me that I had been at 3cm for more than 4 hours!!!

Report
popsycal · 22/10/2006 19:20

will post ds2's statistics then
first proper contraction at around 7am
got to hospital at 7:12
born at 7:21 after two quick pushes
got my trousers off just in time

3 days

lulumama · 22/10/2006 19:21

established labour is 3 cm...some people argue 5 cm.....!

so they discount all the contractions and pains before then!!

but i counted each and every minute!!

Had a show on 10pm Friday night, with painful contractions from 3am onwards. Went to hospital Sunday 7.45pm ws 6cm dilated. Ds eventually put in appearance at 6.40am Monday. Very long and very tiring. But worth every minute.
