Sex works, but beware, it might trigger a mini-labour and then go away again.

I reckon that the baby hangs on in there until ready, regardless of what you do to trigger it off.

Acupuncture?

I tried all the usual tricks (pineapple, raspberry leaf tea, long walks, nipple stimulation, curries, climbing stairs, bumpy roads, sex) and not one worked. Didn't try acupuncture but know of a couple of people who went into labour not long after it.

Personally though, I think it's all down to chance when your baby chooses to arrive and nothing you do will alter that. If it arrives after 16 pineapples, well, it's just coincidence.

But then I'm very cynical having had 2 late babies who refused to budge!!

cumin tea, a teaspoon of cumin seeds or powder in boiling water and a spoon of honey to sweeten. doesn't taste as bad as it sounds.

i drank one mug before bed and woke up in labour at 38+2

This is pretty much foolproof but only if the cervix is ripe.. in which case you are likely to be only bringing labour forward by days at the most (but those days can feel loooooooooong!)

DIY orgasms. Repeatedly. Just get on with it. You can play patience on the PC or something with the other hand if you are bored. They make the uterus contract. Don't get yourself time to recover.. just keep going. If your cervix is ripe, your contractions will soon pick up the rythmn and turn into real ones.

This works. I have done a study

Oh and manually.. don't use a rampant rabbit or similar!!

Hot curry (although if it does work, god help the midwife when you start pushing the baby out...)

Reflexology.

Finally, make sure you don't have any fears hanging over you. For the birth of my second I was 10 days overdue. I tried everything (even sex) but nothing worked. I had contractions every night for a week, but the baby just didn't want to move. I had practiced hypnobirthing so did the fear release imagery where you are supposed to imagine any fears you have drifing away.

My fear (but I didn't realise how strong it was) was what I was going to do with DS1 when I went into labour. I had friends lined up but I have fast labours and no-one was really close. No family nearby.

Anway, my sister arrived over from Ireland at 9.30pm. My waters popped and I went into labour exactly an hour and a half labour and he was out in 2.5 hours. What was stopping labour was my fear of what to do with my first child. So make sure you don't have anything like that hanging over you and hopefully it will happen.

more sex

nipple stimulation, with a breast pump if you have one....

cervix is favourable if dilating, effacing, anterior, short...if that helps

That should be an hour and a half later (not labour)

and visualise the baby moving down, the cervix softening and opening,,,,

oh and if you start to get mild contrctions or strong BH's, whatever you feel like calling them, nipple twiddle like theres no tomorrow!

every time my contractions faded down a bit i sat down and chilled out while gently rolling my nipples between my thumb and forefinger, it intensifies the contractions, mine would jump up to 1 min long every 1 or 2 mins while i was doing it. got my self to 4 cm this way before toddling into hospital where the lovely mw was kind enough to break my waters (my labours simply don't progress til my waters go for whatever reason, happened with dd too) and i had ds 3 hours later.

I always find that if a very nice midwife tells me that I will go into labour soon, and very easily, I always do.
I definately think some of it psychological.
