How long was your labour?

Had my first baby recently... From waters broke (1cm) until the baby was out took 4hrs and 16 minutes. I only pushed for 7 minutes about 8/9 pushes in total. I had a small labial tear needing 5 individual stitches not much pain after. Bleeding stopped at around 3 weeks post partum. All round everything went pretty good. How was your labour?

I've had four dc

Dc1- 13 hours start to finish, g and a, very straight forward no stitches she weighed 7lb 6 and was 1 week late

Dc2- was an induction at 38 weeks due to gd. 24 hrs with pessary waters broken at 8, drip at 10, born at 7 that night, epidural, no stitches she weighed 7lb 13.

Dc3- was an induction due to severe spd. Waters broke at midnight, born at 7 in the morning 10lb 8, epidural, no stitches. Wasn't as straight forward there were a few scary heart decelerations and was nearly taken to theatre a couple of times they think he was compressing his cord because he was so huge!

Dc4- about 9 hours start to finish. Epidural and no stitches. Very scary heart decelerations with heart rate not picking back up. I went from 5cms to fully dilated in 15 mins when they broke my waters my blood pressure dropped and I became quite unwell. Ventouse delivery with about 12 people in the room he's fine now but it was by far my least favourite birth.

1hr with my DD who is my first, 8 mins of pushing. I've been advised to have a home birth for any subsequent children to avoid them being born in the car en route!

DS1 around 8 hours from first contraction. 3 pushes & only around 10 mins after waters broke. G&A for around 45 mins. No tears etc. Midwife called it "textbook"

DS2 about 35 mins. Less than 3 mins after waters broke. Delivered at home by my DP with no analgesia, only direction from ambulance despatch (crew on responding ambulance didn't know I was in labour, they didn't even bring their 'birthing kit' into the house) I had phoned Mat unit only to be told I didn't seem in enough pain to be in labour & probably had a UTIHmm

In addition, no tears etc with DS2 either.

Seems true that second labours go quicker the .... I was told at hospital that if I have another baby to come in as soon as contractions start or waters break because it was so quick for a young first time mum to labour within 4 and a half hours

51h from contractions being timed (they were about every 10 mins when I started counting) to baby being on my chest.

It was fucking horrible. I did 36h at home before they finally let me come in for an assessment contractions never went below every 6 minutes and waters didn't go so despite me being a week overdue they didn't want me in

Was 5cm when I went in. Still had another 15h from being assessed to baby arriving.

Amazingly and despite ending up on the drip as I stopped dilating after 6cm I had a pretty natural experience. No EPI and even though it took two hours I delivered baby naturally without a tear or a graze. I was a physical wreck due to the sheer length of it all but my actual birth was 'good'. Only bled for 10 days pp as well.

Terrified as I'm almost due with number 2 and I can't handle the thought of such a long labour again.

33h from first contraction to delivery, the last 3 of which were pushing. Was horrid. Currently expecting dc2 and would like this to be quicker please!

mammanat I had a similar experience to you. About 50 hours from first contractions, 38 hours timed. Got to hospital at 5cm, at 6am. Very very slow progression even with the drip, eventually got to 10cm, pushed for 2 hours. Dd born just before midnight but I ended up with cat 1 emcs after a failed ventouse because dd was in transverse arrest, ie she was off to the side and well and truly stuck. She was born with a big bruise on her head where she had been hitting my pelvis.

40+13 Waters went at 9.30pm, was 3cm by midnight and DS was born at 3am. G&A for last hour and 2nd degree tear. Also suggested to me I might want to consider a home birth if I have any more.

1 hour 15mins, with 20mins of pushing.

Another one with two days of contractions to get to 4cm, and over 30 hours of that was 3 contractions within 10 minutes. Then an emcs when I finally hit 4cm and someone bothered to monitor me and the baby and found out that DD was very ill Hmm

Next time, ELCS thank you!

First baby born at 24 weeks, 42 hours of contractions, 6 pushes, weighed 1lb 5oz, bled for 6 weeks

2nd baby - born at 40.2 weeks, 18 hours of contractions, 40 minutes of pushing, weighed 7lb 1oz and only had her 4 days ago so haven't got a clue how long bleeding will last lol

48 hours from first contraction to giving birth, 8 hours of which were in hospital, 2 hours pushing. The first 40 hours are not classed as active labour but I was having contractions every 5 mins lasting a minute for most of that so it felt pretty active to me!
