Is this the Real McCoy??

I realise it's the middle of the night so maybe not many people up, but trying to distract myself so thought I would try and get a wee discussion going to establish whether I am in real labour or not!!

I've been up for almost 2 hours....at first I thought ow as just getting braxton hicks like I have been for a few days, but the tightening have been accompanied by cramping in my lower abdomen and round to my back.

They started off at 4 mins apart - so I assumed they couldn't be real as so close?? - and are now anything from 1.30 - 3 mins apart with the contractions (if that's what they are) lasting about 45-55 seconds. The cramping has definitely become more intense over the last 2 hours but not unbearable.

I went to the loo about an hour ago and have also had a show - so I'm hoping this is a good sign.

I've also had loose bowel movements over the last couple days, which may be my body's way of preparation?

I have phoned the maternity unit and they are happy with me to stay at home until I feel the need to come in ( I am only a 5min drive away) so am contemplating going for a bath to ease the discomfort.

Has anybody else had signs like this and it ending up as false labour?

Oh, and I'm 39 + 4 Smile

Having a bath just now which has eased the discomfort, will see how I feel when I get out but wanting to stay at home as long as poss (without being reckless!)

Very excited - just hope it doesn't all stop!

Sounds like the real deal to me too. Bath is a great plan. Try to rest, drink and nibble too OP as you could have a bit longer to go yet and crown jewel is right, make sure you see a midwife to be sure. Good luck and keep us posted :-)

sounds exactly like my labour..my contractions were close together from very early on and a bit unpredictable..mines started at 4am along with a show but a bath sped mine up. went to hosp at 12 that afternoon and was 4cm, straight forward enoughSmile

Reassuring to hear Smile

Just out the bath and contractions still seem to be about 3 mins apart - no sign of waters breaking yet but have had more of a show.

DH has gone back to sleep so can't be panicking too much haha

Still no baby :(.

Contractions slowed down and now only every 15mins approx - how disappointing!

The good news is I have been examined and am 2cm dilated, and cervix is "nice and soft" and has started it's journey round - so things are going in the right direction albeit very slowly!

Boo!! But regular contractions are still better than irregular, even if they have slowed down.

Long walk might help ramp it up?

Managed a wee sleep which I'm grateful for as been up since 2....now getting contractions every 6-8 minutes but may have a brisk walk round the block as an insurance policy Grin

Started reading this thread and thought "I'll be amazed if there's no baby by the end of this!" but, still no baby?

Sympathy for the quick start though. I remember reading all about labour starting off with contractions 20-30 minutes apart, but no, mine went immediately to every 3 minutes! Couldn't even go for a wee without contracting! But, at least mine was over and done with within 13 hours.

Keep resting up. You might be one of those poor souls who has this rigamarole for days (hoping to be proved wrong!)

Hope the contractions are still going strong and that you are managing to eat, drink and sleep a little. Important to do all 3 OP! Going to keep checking in so keep us posted x

Hi everyone - thought you might like a wee update!

Anna Eileen was born at 7.23pm on Sunday the 26th, weighing 6lb15.5oz. Labour was more than 40hours from start to finish but we managed a natural delivery and she's absolutely perfect :).

Thanks for all other advice :) x
