Anybody have a successful sweep first time?

Hi had my first sweep earlier this afternoon not half as bad as what i was expecting and mw said i was 3cm dilated and baby's head was really low down. She said she wouldn't be surprised if i didn't labour before my next appointment on Friday.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much though as shes been saying since 37 weeks that she thinks baby will make an appearance anytime now and wouldn't need my next appointment! So as you can imagine very fed up been 40+6 weeks with no baby still!

Just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience and mw was actually right that time. Would love to think this time shes right and no need for induction on Monday.

Any experiences would be nice to know

I didn't want to leave you with no one answering but no my first and second sweeps didn't lead to anything I am afraid.

Hi - I had a sweep with each of mine and went into labour 4 days and 2 days later respectively. Who knows whether the sweeps had anything to do with it though! (Also ate copious amounts of curry and pineapple too!) Good luck!

I don't want to disappoint you but I was told from 35 weeks I was to be prepared for anytime soon, had first sweep on due date and was 2cm dilated, bishops score of 6, 4/5ths engaged. Had another 3 over the the following 8 days and bishops score went up to 8, still no baby. Was induced at 41+5 (just 11.30pm) and gave birth at 41+6, 8am.

I walked for miles and miles, bounced, squats, sex, crab up and down the stairs...., I think babies come when they come. Don't stress and enjoy a few days to yourself while you can. Grin

Had first sweep yesterday, walked lots and nothing. +3 today. All I've achieved is a hip that hurts like hell :) second sweep on Friday. I'm hoping they might make the induction go slightly faster though if my bishops score moves up from 3/12 and I can't see the harm apart from the embarrassment (but having had one dc I'm over that).

Thankyou for your replies, you've given me abit of hope it may work but not holding my breath though! lol ive got no signs of anything starting yet got some period type cramps and lower back ache but been having that on and off for the past few weeks! I did have a show this morning but again i know that doesnt guarantee labour will start anytime soon. Think im just going to expect to be induced on Monday and anything before is a bonus :) just going to try and keep busy in the mean time xx
