Induction and gestational diabetes - having 'the talk' with consultant next week...any help or experiences welcome!

Hello all,

I've posted before about this, but next week is my chance to chat to consultants about next steps. I have a diagnosis of GD, diet controlled, since diagnosis all blood sugars within target - usually 4, 5 occasionally 6.

Baby is not large, amniotic fluid normal, cord blood flow normal. Feeling pretty well in my self - for a 36 wk pregnant woman!

This is 5th baby, all other babies born at home no problems. So...this time has been rather different as have had consultants etc involved and last appointment was told I would be induced, but that I would be 'allowed' to go to my due date or thereabouts. Dr wrote on notes..'agreed'...but I don't think I agree!

Have spoken to supervisor of midwives, who has sent a letter to consultant saying I'd like to chat further. At this appointment I'd like to challenge the medical 'need' for induction in my case. I've done some research and it seems that risks associated with GD are usually more acute for women with uncontrolled bloods, on medication or with pre-existing diabetes. My bs is fairly level, with no huge diet change (obvs no choc binges!) and baby is not big etc. Therefore I feel that I am swapping one set of risks for another set of risks (induction) and I'm finding it very hard to judge which represents the best scenario for my case...

I'm sorry for long post, but if you do have anything to suggest or had experience of similar yourself - I would love to hear from you.

Many thanks!
