6 weeks post delivery and bleeding hasn't been right so referred for a scan which found large blood clot. Tablets to flush it out haven't worked so evac it is.
Has anyone had this done? If so long how did you bleed for afterwards? Feels like I've been bleeding forever !

I had this with DC1, only the tiny part of retained placenta wasn't identified until an ultrasound around 10 weeks after she was born. I had a D&C just over a week later. Was only in a morning. DH and DC1 came in with me and waited whilst I was in theatre. I had expressed as was BF for the following 24hours so I could express and dump milk in that period, this was on doctors advice. However, anaesthetist said this was very conservative and I could have BF throughout.

I had to rest at home for the rest of the day but DH was at work the next day and I was fine to look after DC1.

All bleeding stopping 2 weeks later.

I would mention it in future pregnancies so they keep an eye out for it. I have had retained products in 3 out of 4 deliveries. All the girls!

Have you had your iron levels checked? They have checked mine each time and I have had to have an iron supplement.

Yes they aren't that bad actually which is good.
Sounds daft but I'm wondering if my bleeding now is coming from the clot or if the clot is preventing things from healing properly if that makes sense??

I got told the continual bleeding was my body recognising there was "foreign matter" ie the babies still in my body and was still bleeding as it was trying to flush the product out. Then when the product was surgically removed the bleeding naturally stopped.

I had much manual retrieval of blood clots after dc1 and thereafter not much bleeding as I think they got so much of it. Check with the drs if at all concerned about how heavy it is

Had my evac but it unfortunately went wrong and they perforated my womb . I ended up having key hole surgery with stitches inside my womb and on my stomach.
I'm utterly pissed off. Dd is 7 weeks now and I should be fully recovered but instead I feel like I've taken 10 steps back.
Seriously considering making a complaint regarding my care. Surely the midwives should of checked if my placenta ( a huge piece was left) was fully intact ??

Ah that sucks for you - I think you should complain if you have the energy for it, surely they are supposed to check the placenta properly.

Aw that is awful. Hope you can hide in bed with the baby for a few days and someone else can help with your older kids.

I know with DC2 and DC4 they did check my placenta very carefully - due to first time - and thought they had got it all but both times there was still some left behind. With DC4 I saw it and it was the size of the palm of my hand. Midwives just said it can be hard to tell......

Hope you make a speedy recovery.

Hi fresh

Still very bruised and sore. The ga has really knocked me out for a few days and I'm sleeping quite alot. Got plenty of help though. Bleeding has turned to spotting which is good.
Did they want you for a follow up appt at any time ?

Glad to hear the worst has passed.

I think I did have a follow up a few weeks later with DC1 but we were living overseas so in a different health care system.

With DC2 I didn't have a specific follow up as had the manual removal in theatre 2 hours after she was born.

With DC4 the products came away themselves at home so I had to go for an ultrasound to check it had all gone.

So they may not specifically call you back.

Hope you can keep resting.
