Hi My baby is now 5 months old, after a long labour I ended up having an emcs. The pain was pretty bad for a couple of weeks but felt much better after that. My scar healed perfect but 5 months on my tummy on my pouch lol not the scar still feels tender and I can lay on my front on floor to play with baby as it still feels strange, is this normal ? Five months on.

I had no infections and took it easy so I thought I would of felt fine now?

I've had two c sections - the last was 3.5 years ago. I also had no problems with healing or infection. Along the scar, about and inch and a half all around it is still numb and probably will never regain feeling. After 5 months it was numb and still achy sometimes when I did a lot.

I think it's normal to have numbness, tingling and a general strange feeling for a long time afterwards as the nerves are cut through at the time of the procedure and take a while to repair. I will say that I have fibromyalgia (chronic pain/fatigue) so maybe I'm not a typical example as sometimes I feel things quite acutely eg around the time of my period my scar aches and feels cramps. If you have any real concerns, maybe talk to your doctor or a nurse.

My emcs was 2.5 years ago. From the scar to an inch m a half above is still completely numb but really sensitive at the same time. Sometimes it still gives me jip especially when I exercise. Sometimes it feels sore like they've sewed me up too tight Blush

I think it's normal. Mine hurt for a good few months - I think it was about 9 months before the area around my scar felt normal again, although there are still a couple of numb areas. I went to the doctor but they said that's just the way it is.

Some people seem to recover really quickly from cs, whereas others take longer, with no discernible reason as to why. I found that pilates was helpful - have you thought of trying something similar?

Completely normal. I have had two EMCS and one ELCS (with hysterectomy) 8 months ago. I still get tenderness on the scar and if one of the children aims a well placed knee or elbow at my belly button it is uncomfortable. It takes 12 months to fully heal internally, but adhesions internally and external scar tissue can leave you with funny sensations long after.
