Has anyone had their PFB before due date?

As in not medically 'too early' but between 38-40 weeks? Anyone had a prompt first one? :)

I was naively under the impression that bar medical reasons, almost everyone went over on their first.
But every HCP I've seen (I'm 38+4) , upon having felt around and checked how long baby has been engaged has said with a wink and a nod "see you on due date ... if not before!" or "Ooh, hope you've got your bag ready". So I'm wondering...?

Not worried as had a growth scan last week, baby is within 'average' range for size etc' but just surprised.
Best not make any reservations or order online shopping..?

Yes, DS was born at 39+4. DD (2nd born) was also early at 38+4.

I don't think there's actually any scientific evidence that first timers go overdue, or at least I've not been able to find any with the assistance of Dr. Google. My mum had her first at 38 weeks, I had DD at 39+4, and you'll get enough replies from other first timers who went before 40 weeks - as well as those that didn't. Though I did think full term was from 37 not 38 weeks?
I'd be wary about listening to the HCP's though, I know they're trying to be friendly but I think it's really irresponsible when they get the parents' hopes up. They kept telling my SIL they didn't even think she'd make it to 37 weeks and DN wouldn't come out until 42.

Due date for pfb here, but my waters went two days before. I was convinced I was going to go over

I had my lo, 3 weeks ago at 36+1. He was my first and it was a huge shock to go into premature labour. Silver lining is that he was always measuring big and was 5lb 4oz at birth. I shudder at what he would have been at full term.

Thanks all, evidently an old wive's tale that first babies always go over!

I have everything packed and ready.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see...

Yup - 36+3 and he was absolutely fine, 6lb 6. The day before he arrived, people were saying 'Oh, you're still carrying really high - you've got ages to go yet!' I'm quite glad he came when he did because he was nearly 9lb by his due date!

DS1 = 38+5 (despite a fully closed cervix 36hrs earlier, when a midwife told me I'd go to 41 weeks)

DS2 = 39+4

Yes I would pack that bag Wink

Dd1 I was told by a money grabbing consultant would most certainly be overdue and too big for me to give birth to. I arranged an induction for 39 weeks and she arrived all on her own the night before Smile I hadn't bothered with hospital bags or anything because "I have all day tomorrow to sort that out". Yea. Right.

DS1 was born three days early. DS2 was born a week before due date with an attempted appearance at 34 weeks (12 hours of regular contractions and a night in hospital). From 34 to 39 weeks I had regular braxton hicks every single evening! Also, do not bank on being like family other members. My two sisters between them have had three inductions and one born on due date. My Mum had four of us very easily (two home births), but between myself and my two sisters (6 kids between us), we've had 2 inductions, forceps, venteuse, epidurals, one 'no drugs' birth (too quick) and one hypo-water-home-birth!

Yep. At 38wk5 I saw my midwife and said jokingly that the current series of my favourite programme (the X Files - which dates me a bit!!) finished at 10pm two days later and then I'd be ready to go - at 10.02pm I bent over to pick up my nightdress from the floor and when waters went with a loud pop, DS1 arrived 11.5hrs later Smile

Had my pfb dd bang on 37 weeks. I had nothing ready as I believed all the first babies come late stuff and I thought I had at least another month!
This time around I will have my bag packed from 30wks!

Yes, lots of lucky cows women do Grin

But still more common to be late with your first. I was engaged from 34 weeks with my first and everyone told me I'd come early because I was really active - nope!

I had my dd at 35+6. No warning and labour was 2 hours 15 mins fron start to finish. Bit of a shock to say the least! first babies can definitely be early!

My PFB DS born at 38+1. Was not engaged at all before labour which was very fast - only 7 hours from first contraction & waters breaking. Good luck, hope all goes well!
