Hi,
i had a home birth with my 2nd son 12 weeks ago, it was the most wonderful experience ever! I cant wait to have another,
He was 7lb 11oz, born at home in a birthing pool, with no painrelief - a perfect birth.
heres my story ( copied from my online diary!)...
On sunday i woke up feeling no different at all, in fact i had nothing going on as opposed to my usual period cramps so expected nothing.
We decided to go to the park with BIL and SIL, there are these little ride on steamtrains and i went on one, dunno if that had anything to do with starting!! they were pretty fast and bumpy :D
so when we got home, my mum rang and i asked her if Addison (DS1- 18 months) could visit for a few hours, i walked round at about 6pmish and dropped him off.
So with no baby around me and DF (Adam) decided it was time to try and meet our new baby!
so we 'did the deed' at about 7pm and afterwards i rubbed clarysage oil into my bump.
We went down stairs and ordered a pizza,
after we finished the pizza Addison came home and i put him to bed at about 9pm,
whilst i was lying on the bed with him waiting for him to nod off i started getting pains, they mustve come quite fast and have been relitvly stong as i shouted Adam and by the time he came upstairs i was on all fours breathing through them,
at about 10pm the contractions were coming fast about every 3-4 mins but were only lasting 20 secs or so, i decided to ring my mum, but the phone was busy... she finally got round at about 11pm.
we rang the midwife at about 11.45 and she arrived at 12.30
by now the pains were getting very uncomfatable and i was struggling being on 'dry land' The pool was blown up but it took a while to get it filled to the right height and temperature,
i got in the pool at 1.30am ish
the contractions were bad, worse than first time round id say, alot more intense. plus i was, at times, having double contractions - no real break in between, they were tough.
at points i was ready to give up, but i had to keep saying things in my head like 'keep going..not long now' ect
the pains got really bad and i felt the urge to push, but i didnt tell anyone -same as with addison,
i had about 4 contractions during which i was pushing but noone knew, i remember my ears being under the water and thinking 'im gonna have to tell them hes coming' so i decided that i would say it after the next one... but as i pushed secretly i felt him come right down, like he was coming out!!
i came up from the water and said 'hes coming out' at which point i realised the midwife was gone!
she didnt know know i was pushing and had gone for a wee!!
when she got back down i was really feeling him coming down,
i wouldnt push though, i was terrified of tearing like i did with my first son - a pretty bad tear!, so i was pushing him far enough to supress the pushing urge, but then stopping,
so then he crowned, BUT my waters were still intact!! i waited untill my next contraction (which was soooo hard with his head hanging out - but i just couldnt push through without the 'urge'/contraction) meanwhile the midwife was trying to break the waters with an amniohook - but couldn't
i got another contraction and pushed him out, he was born membranes intact - in the caul they said later (very rare and lucky apparantly)
the placed him onto my tummy and my mum cut the cord - adam didnt want to!
it was just amazing, no stitches, no tears, not even a graze - i dont hurt down there at all!
my placenta came away straight away after my injection and i didnt even have to push!
the midwives stayed about 2 hours and after tea and toast left,
it was so surreal being at home, my first visitor was at 4am!! my gran - bless her... and the visitors havent stopped since - but i dont mind
i want the world to see my gorgeous boy!!
so he was 7lbs11oz
head circ - 35cm
length - 55cm
Feeding is still going well, he latches on fabulously and i know im producing someting as im leaking and his poops are going brown/yellow ... but my nipples ar SO sore im in real pain with it, but im keeping going, im enjoying it too much,
if i have anymore they will definatly be born at home,
hope you are all well
