So I wasn't worried until the midwife used the phrase Clitoral tear.....

DS is 2 weeks today. Had a good labour (birthing pool & gas and air) and then a scary last 10 mins when they realised he had the cord round his neck. I pushed him out in stirrups and he is now all ok. I was left with a tear across the labia which they stitched (I had a retained placenta so they did it whilst I has full spinal block for that). The midwife came and saw me afterwards and used the phrase Clitoral tear. I've had it checked and it's all healing nicely but there is definite lumpy bits including around the clitoris (the midwife said this was just swelling). Lots of the Midwifes (was in hospital for a whole so saw lots) said I was really lucky as I had no perineal stitches - they viewed the ones I had as much better (apart from the one present at birth so I think she probably had best idea of the damage!!)
Anyone else had this sort of tear? Will it ever be the same again? Or at least "functional" for want if a better word!!!

My sister had this and the main thing to keep an eye on is the scar tissue. She didn't mention for years that she basically had a hard ridge of scar tissue that was making sex painful. She had a quick op that removed it in 10 minutes and she was fine so if you do have any scarring let them know!

I had this with my first birth. I was also really freaked out when the midwife said it had happened but it was absolutely fine - no lasting damage at all. You can ask any questions at your six week check up with your GP.

Congratulations on your new baby!

Everthing should be fine. When we midwives say clitoral, it usually means the flappy skin aroung the actual clitoris. But if everything is healing well theres no need to worry. As what a pp said, keep an eye on the scar tissue. All wounds will have scar tissue and it doesnt bother them but because its such a delicate area, you will be more aware of scar tissue

Congratulations and best of luck x
