Suspected ICP at 39 weeks

Hello MNers!

I'm 39 weeks pregnant today and, after a weekend of incessant itching, I called my local birth centre, told the midwife about the itching, and she has said she wants to rule out ICP. I have an appointment today at 2.30.

I've been looking into ICP this morning and it seems that most people are diagnosed a lot earlier in pregnancy. 39 weeks seems a little bit late to be looking into it because if it is ICP (not getting ahead of myself - just thinking IF) by the time I get test results/a diagnoses, any damage will already have been done.

Anyone have any experience of late ICP diagnosis? Would they just offer an induction straightaway based on suspicion without a confirmed diagnose if they suspect anything or would they wait? I'm just really scared but trying not to over worry as it's probably nothing. Sad

Thank you for any advice x

It takes roughly 8-24 hours for the bile acid results to come back. As soon as they know that they'll make a plan if it is, probably induction right away tbh.

I was diagnosed at 34 weeks last pregnancy and 26 weeks this time. Don't worry, you'll be well looked after and if you've only just started itching then it's only just become a problem (iyswim)

Hi I was diagnosed at 39w2d. Had bloods taken at 4pm, called me at 10am following day telling me to come in and be induced at 1pm. So I'd get a bag packed if I were you! Baby arrived on due date after very long induction!

Don't worry about damage being done, so to speak. I was diagnosed very late. And wasn't diagnosed at all in first pregnancy (dd born 8 days overdue). And I have 2 perfect little children!

Good luck x

I was also diagnosed at 39 + 2. Woke up on Friday am with insane itching, test at midday, result at 6pm, admitted at 7, baby out at 12.44 on Saturday. He's perfect and beautiful in every way - try not to worry x

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me... you've really reassured me.

To give you an update, the midwife called to say bile salts were raised (+90) and to get to the hospital. I was induced at about 2pm and have been getting contractions all afternoon. I expect it will be a long wait though as I'm a FTM and I'm scared as hell about the next few hours/days! Confused

But thank you again for your support bad good luck to all the other mums-to-be!

X
