Just wondering how much weight you lost following the birth of your baby?

I have put on approx 20lbs and I'm trying to figure out how much of that is chocolate related!!!!

I ventured onto the scales a week after dd was born and was amazed to be 1lb lighter than the day I got my BFP. I had been trying to lose weight whilst ttc and did my best to be healthy during my pregnancy. My maternity jeans fit perfect when I bought them but got looser and wouldn't stay up in the end.

That's really good - I don't think I will be quite so lucky though! I did start out with good intentions but turns out pregnancy gave me a major sweet tooth...

I am 40 weeks tomorrow, my scales say i have put on 14lbs. I'm already quite overweight so hoping i lose a few pounds straight off.
Last baby i lost about 6lb straight away.

I managed to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight about 8 weeks after the birth.

I'm usually back to well below pre-pregnancy weight within a week of the birth, and back to pre-pregnancy shape within a couple of months (was a fortnight the first time but hey...)

I have a very weird metabolism that works really really well in pregnancy, and means that I end pregnancy lighter than when I start it. For example I was 68kg before pregnancy number 4, 73kg the week before she was born, 63kg a week after the birth, and back to 69kg after a year. This is 10kg overweight and I can't seem to shed it Sad and [grr]. It is so damned annoying.

Duchesse - that's just like me! I've never found anyone who had the same issue. I've always been a healthy weight - but at the upper end if the healthy BMI range and certainly not able to eat whatever I want or not exercise. But after giving birth - wow. With my second in particular, I gave birth on Good Friday, my maternity jeans were loose by Easter Monday and my pre pregnancy clothes loose by the next Friday. Despite stuffing myself with cream teas not caring what I ate. Very odd. Drastic weight loss stopped when I gave up breast feeding at about 6 weeks - with my baby still barely at her birth weight (same as first time round Sad). My midwife (I had the same one the whole of my second pregnancy) thought I might have a thyroid issue kick started by the hormonal changes in giving birth. She wondered if it also affected my milk supply. Did you bf successfully?

I gained about 25lb during my first pregnancy and had lost about 14lb by 2 weeks after the birth. Dd weighed 9lb of that!

I put on around 2 stone after birth on account of feeding for 16 hours a day rendering me immobile and reliant on fast food.

I lost 2 stone in the first week following DS1's birth. However, 10lbs of that was baby, the rest was apparently fluid as I was constantly weeing!

I was at pre baby weight in two weeks and a stone less than when hot pg after 4 weeks. However, that 4 weeks was spent in hospital , where the food guarantees weight loss. All back on now though, perhaps should check in for a week

I weighed myself after I returned home after having ds1 and I was half a stone heavier than I was full-term. Hmm

After ds2 when I put on a whopping 3.5 stone I had lost all the pregnancy weight within 3 days of the birth.

I don't why it was so different for both pregnancies.

I'm two days pp and haven't actually lost very much since before birth (not even the 7lbs baby weight which is a bit confusing!!). I am back in my normal clothes but that's only because I actually lost a stone whilst pregnant due to needing a strict diet at had gd from 16 weeks.

About a stone, one week later I had lost a further 8, fluids I assume. It then took me a year to get the remaining two stone off.

8 pounds that is, not stone!

I put on 1.5 stone and I was 8 stone before I got pregnant. One week after the birth I weighed 8 stone 10lbs and about a week after this I was 8 stone 6 lbs which I have been ever since (my baby is 4 months). I breastfed which meant that all the chocolate (often chocolate cake for breakfast) I ate didn't result in extra weight gain. My body has changed shape and I barely fit into old clothes but I am only going to start gentle exercising from next week. The aim being to change my shape rather than lose weight. Your ligaments are still soft after birth so running is too high impact and they recommend that you only do that 6 months after birth. Walking is fine and I intend to start doing that.

duchesse and littlemrssleepy, I am like you two. I am at the top end off normal bmi usually, gained very little during my first pregnancy (just 7kg, about a stone) but lost ten three day he was born. Baby was over 10lbs at birth, leaving me about half a stone less than where I'd been pre-pregnancy when I weighed myself post partum.

I'm pregnant again and once again am just not gaining much weight. At 27weeks I've gained 5kg (10.10lbs). I wonder if that means I'll avoid another 10+ lber. I'll almost certainly weigh less post partum again, and slowly gain it back over time, like last time. I lost a total of ten kg the day ds was born but 10 months later was back up to my pre-pregnancy weight plus 1kg .

Both times I weighted myself on getting home. With dc1 I list 15lbs and second time I lost 11lbs. I had put on about a stone and half in each case and babies were 7lb 9 and 8lb 5.

The exact weight of my daughter and not a smidgen more.

Was furious.

Although within a month I was back to my pre pregnancy weight. Unfortunately that's still 4 stones more than it should be.

I put on 3lbs in the first trimester, then 2 stone 11 in the following six months. A week after giving birth I had lost 1 stone 11. The baby only weighed 8lb 5oz. I was amazed.

Learnasyougo - my babies were not big, under 7lb. Like you I didn't put on a massive amount whilst pregnant. Never weighed myself but I don't think much more than the baby weight itself. I found the whole weight loss thing really bizarre, as did my midwife. I worked in a Maternity unit and my boss was the head of midwifery - she was bemused too!!

Seems unfair that some end up weighing heavier on the scales once the baby is out!! I'm know I'm carrying a lot of fluid so really hoping my pregnancy weight comes off quickly. I'm overweight anyway so can't afford the extra weight. I do intend to breast feed, at least for the first few weeks - hopefully this will help!

littlemrs- yes, I did breastfeed very successfully (years for each child) but I do have a diagnosed thyroid problem- hypothyroidism, which is an insufficiency. I believe that hyperthyroidism (also very common post pregnancy) makes it much more difficult to produce milk. I've been on thyroxine since pregnancy number 4.

I'm the opposite to Duchesse and others; I put on tons of weight (4 stone with DS1, not so much with the others), give birth to massive babies (one over 10lbs, one nearly 12 ouch, and a 'tiddler' of 8lbs 10oz).
Baby plus water meant dropping a good stone at birth, then watched fascinated as the swelling went down and my bones and muscles re-appeared - back to just below pre-pg weight by about three months - more like five with DC3.

I was slim as a whippet while bf, plus I walked and walked until we moved to the country; have gradually crept up to 'normal to plump,' rather than 'thin,' so am working on that.

What I do know now, though, is that the fast weightloss probably caused gallstones to form, although I don't know how I could have avoided the weight gain as I ate to try and keep a lid on the constant nausea. Unfortunately, potatoes were my main form of antacid medicine!

Duchesse - hopefully your thyroid will sort itself out as I know it's not a nice ailment to have either. Will it likely clear up or will you have it permanently?

1 stone with both pregnancies. Another stone trickled off over the next couple of months.
