I started using natal hypnotherapy book and cds at around 20 weeks pregnant. After a few weeks I felt so relaxed and confident that we decided to plan a home birth. When the day came I used the techniques to stay calm and relaxed and needed no drugs. When the contractions were coming fast I felt like I was getting a good long rest in between total time distortion! I am so glad I discovered this and want to shout from the rooftops to anyone who is pregnant to give this a go! It helped to make my labour a wonderful experience!

Thanks. I've signed up for 2 workshops in this and got the book and CD so it's good to hear some positive feedback about it. Everyone is so keen to share horror stories about birth and I'm frankly terrified, so it's great to hear a good story.

I second what helenmc says I only used CDs and book and i was in my own special place the whole way through my induced labour which was mighty quick and intense.

OP what book?

I used the book and CDs and powered through a 4 hour labour to deliver a 9lb13 baby on gas and air. I had an epidural the first time and I would say the 2nd time using hypnotherapy and g&a was far easier!

Hi, can I ask what book & CD you used please? I'm very interested in finding out more about this. Thanks

Just a quick message for those who are asking about which book and cds the OP used - they are the Natal Hypnotherapy series by Maggie Howell. It is a UK based programme, which has a variety of cds to cover most all types of birth that are planned for, from elective c-section to a home birth. They have a book, titled "Effective Birth Preparation", which is written by Maggie Howell and they run courses across the UK - 2 x 1 day courses: "natural pain relief" and "effective birth prep". I believe they also do short "sessions" but I dont know what these entail, sorry! If you google Natal Hypnotherapy their website is very easy to find.

I guess people are now thinking that they've not seen me here before, and I must be advertising - I'm not!! I used Natal Hypnotherapy for the birth of my first lo 2.5 yrs ago and had a completely pain free and drug free labour and birth, having worked all day in labour. The release from fear that the NH series gave me was just amazing, and I now tell everyone I can about it! If anyone has any questions about it, feel free to shout me smile

I used Natal Hypnotherapy for both of my births and although they werent pain free, the techniques and self hypnosis helped me stay calm and very positive .. i remember saying lots of 'my baby is coming soon'. It really helped that I knew what was going on, as maggie Howells book explains it all brilliantly, and exactly why your body has contractions and what the pain of contractions is all about and really importantly the role of hormones ;o)
I was so impressed by how it works I have trained as a Natal Hypnotherapy practitioner, and I now do workshops for expectant parents on how to have a more 'normal' birth using natal hypnotherapy.. its really fab and please recommend it to all!!

I really want to do the training and go into practice, but its not a good time at the moment. I really hope that I can someday! In the meantime, I just keep spreading the word as best I can - I hate the fear that surounds birth, and I wish I could reach every woman who feels like I felt beforehand and tell them there is another way.
