smear after third degree tear

How soon after? I was due mine a year after my tear and it was fine. How is everything ...aherm.. In that department generally? Good repair? Healed well?

Book it for when you feel ready. I had a 4th degree tear and it was about 16 weeks after the birth before I felt ok to have a smear. I was due one whilst pregnant so they were pushing me to have it as soon as possible.

The worst thing was mentally preparing for it, but I told the nurses when I booked it and again when I arrived. They could tell I was nervous but were really nice and understanding and gentle. Physically it was uncomfortable, but no worse than a smear pre-childbirth.

Healed well just don't want to retest (and I know it won't) I'm just being irrational and if i want another I'll have to get over it! Thanks Yoko that will make it easier (as long as it wasn't ouch!)

I had a smear 12 Weeks after a third degree year. (As I had abnormal smears in the past, I think you have to wait 12 Weeks after birth due to cell changes in the cervix) and it was fine.

I had a smear 12 Weeks after a second degree year with ds2, it hurt.

I would take some pain killers before you go in

I had a smear after a bad 2nd degree borderline 3rd degree. I too was due one whilst pregnant so when they suggested they do it whilst at my 8 week check, I just said ok! Think it was better off that way rather than me going away to fret about it only to have to return another week to have it done. It hurt a bit but its to be expected, also a bit of blood on the speculum (doc said all normal as things still tender down there) luckily it wasn't so much that it needed to be repeated.

Had borderline 3rd degree (after dc2) and as I've had issues in the past, I had a smear, iodine painted on my cervix and cameras up there! It was less painful than the first time we dtd. That said, with dc1 I had what was, on paper, a similar experience in terms of labour/ tearing etc but was much more painful after and would have delayed a smear did not dtd until about 4 months after and that was eye-wateringly painful.

How are you finding dtd/ going to the loo etc? This should give you some indication, best advice I can give is try (though it's hard) to relax, make your legs go mega floppy and, if possible, go to a local sexual health clinic over a GPs as they do them all the time so I find them much more efficient.

I've had smears between every 3-6 months for the past 13 years now due to problems so basing my advice on my own experiences but everyone's different. Hope yours is ok.

You can request the smallest speculum. Also second a painkiller and/or glass of wine beforehand

I had one a year down the line and wasn't sure whether to be pleased or unhappy that it was less painful than previously!
