Hypnobirthing

I had my first baby via c-section 2 years ago. I had undiagnosed placenta previa and when I went for a sweep I haemorrhaged. It was such a shock and to be honest I've been a bit traumatised by it all. Any sort of internal examination; smear tests etc make me want to throw up and I physically clench the entire time.

I wanted to try some sort of relaxation therapy as I am pregnant again and I don't want to be scared about going in to labour. Has anyone done hypnobirthing or can anyone recommend a cd? I'd be so grateful for any help.

Thanks.

Did hypnobirthing with my second child and it meant a 70% reduction in discomfort plus very relaxed the whole way through despite undetected breech birth. I can highly recommend it - Marie Mongan Method was the one I used.

I did the Marie mongan method too. DD was born at home, v short labour, no drugs or gas & air even! I would highly recommend doing a course rather than just the book or cd. If you're in the south east PM me if you'd like the contact details of a fab lady who runs the course we did?

Thanks so much.

I was looking at the Marie Mongan Method on Amazon. I'm in Ireland but thanks for the offer hellohellohihi. I love that you both found it good, I'm a huge worrier and I know I just need to get myself in to a head space where I can relax and then my body will follow. Well, hopefully! I'm willing to give anything a shot to reduce my anxiety.

That's definitely the crux of it - ie trusting your body to do what it needs to do, and relaxing enough to let the blood and oxygen get up where it needs to go...

Its hard to say whether I actually used any of the techniques during actual labour, but what the whole hypno birthing thing did do, for me, was Dow the seed that birth doesn't have to medical and horrific and instead be, well, good :-)

I used Hypnobirthing (the Marie Mongan one) and it was great. I would agree that a course would be great.

I believe Natal Hypnotherapy is very good too - possibly this is a British version, I'm not sure - but you can search for that too to get courses/books/CDs.

We did a 1 to 1 hypnobirthing course (Marie Mongan) and altho I am a sceptic I did have a 6 hour labour ( 1 week early); got to the hospital at 7cm (did 0 - 7cm on packed commuter train and car from central London - Sussex and Sussex - Chichester) on paracetamol and gas and air. The reinforcement of common sense relaxation and breathing training alone was worth the cost of the course.

The Steve Halpen (sp?) CD was very good for relaxation (was used by my teacher).

I used Marie Mongan too. I didn't find it very useful for pain relief in labour (3x back to back drip induced jobs), but but it was absolutely invaluable for relaxation methods especially for getting blood taken (I used to pass out!), for internals and for staying still while getting epidurals sited.

I used the techniques all through my pregnancies and still use the visualisation when in uncomfortable situations like on flights. Well worth it.

One of my friends was so terrified of giving birth that she didn't think she would have children. She got pregnant by accident and had a straightforward drug free labour after doing hypnobirthing. A lot is definitely in the mind.

Good luck with it
