Hi all,
I had my baby boy on Friday by elcs. I had an epidural as pain relief. I was laid down at 11am & up & about from 5am Saturday. I came out of hospital last night. When I went to bed last night my bum cheek itched & I scratched it & it felt a bit bumpy but I didn't think much of it. I just asked my bf to have a look at it as I remembered it feeling odd last night & he had a look & said it looks like a bed sore. Midwife is coming at some point today so will show her but I'm feeling a bit freaked out & worried, has anyone had this or got any advice? I never sit down, can't believe after less than 24 hrs I could end up with a bed sore?!?

I think it would be unusual after such a short time, unless you were particularly hot and sweaty?

Thank u, midwife said it is just from the epidural & not a problem. Bf has to pop some sudocream on it blush

Bed sores are a rare but serious complication of epidural and need to be reported through the hospital's risk management system. They are avoidable. They are caused by pressure on soft tissue for prolonged periods of time and even healthy young women can get them. They indicate a lack of attention to pressure relief and change of postiion.

I had something similar after a spinal for an EMCS. Is it like a numb feeling? My entire right bum cheek was numb yet aching for a few weeks afterwards. The MW said it was a side effect of the spinal, nerves going into shock, etc and it would pass.

It did gradually fade and was entirely gone by my six week check. I found that moving around helped and massaging it too.
