Going into labour - always in the early hours?

Have noticed that most people seem to go into labour in the early hours of the morning. They've woken early with pain or waters breaking etc. Is this always the case or has anyone's labour actually kicked off during more socialble hours?

1st one - 1st twinges just after midnight - dd1 born at 11:14am.

2nd one - hind waters broke about 11:30 pm, trickled for awhile, I let everyone sleep as no twinges, called MW at about 6am, went into hospital for a check, no progress, was sent home and nothing much happened all day, induced at about 6pm, dd2 born about 11:30pm.

Third one, due March 25th - I hope this one keeps more reasonable hours.

my one and only natural birth was with Rebecca - went into labour at 4.45PM but gave birth at 12.15AM

Two at 10pm, one at 10.30am.

HOWEVER, the 10.30am one followed a bout of food poisoning, so I think my body had had enough and decided to get rid of the baby!!

Apparently the hormone levels that trigger labour rise in the late evenings, meaning it is more likely that you will go into labour at night. If you think back to when we were cave-dwellers it was probably safer to give birth at night when you were less of a target for fierce wild animals (well that's my theory anyway )

my mw told me that for a home birth I would go into labour at the time that was most convenient for me! she asked me what would be the ideal scenario. I said - well, not on the weekend (or my mother will be around lol), early evening just as the kids have gone to bed would be great because then I'll know they'll be deeply asleep and hopefully I'll get a few hours kip myself after it is all over, before they wake up. Ah well, that is what will happen she said. Thought she was a complete hippy for saying that!

I had my first contraction at 7pm on a monday evening just as I'd kissed my ds1 goodnight and he'd conked out!

So there you go. Odd....

Interesting - thanks for your responses.
I can see the logic Mumfun. I went into labour with DD at 4.30 am & delivered her at 3.35 pm.

I was mainly wondering as I'm 38 weeks tomorrow & my sleep pattern is all over the show with not much of it at night anymore. I've been hoping that things will kick off during the day but have this idea (from where, I don't know) that it always happens at night.

dd doesnt count as she was induced - they broke my waters at 6.30pm and she was born 5.25am but eith ds, waters broke 9.50pm went into labour half hour later and he was born at 7.44am

DD waters broke at 6.30pm, DD born at 3.22am (timed at 4h 20 mins officially)

Ideal time for this one would be about 7.30pm DP be home from work, roads quieter for SIL and DD gone to bed. 10 minute pain free labour baby pops out no hassle. All over in time for Lost (pregnancy making SK delusional)

i think cos its when your body is most relaxed, the water goes early hours when youre in bed

All three of mine were born in the early hours of the morning - and in Spring. I'm sure I was a sheep in a previous life.

Ds- contractions kicked off at 1.30am but not born until 5pm.
Dd - Waters broke in bed at 2.30am born at 1.13pm.
39 weeks pg and just expect it to be night again, hopefully anyway! Just seems a lot easier as dh doesnt have to come home from work etc, etc.

The Inferiorettes would appear to disprove this theory.

Dd1 started gradually at about 6pm, was born at noon not the following day but the day after that.

DD2 started with a whoosh and a splash at about 1.30 in the afternoon and was born at about 8.30 that evening.
