I found TENS a complete waste of time, but I know other women who said it really helped, so it's worth a try. I hired my machine from the hospital, which was both cheaper than buying one and more convenient because we could just return it after the birth while we were still there.

One tip: if you have to clip it on, think about the clothes you are planning to wear in labour. I was wearing a nightshirt and there was nowhere to clip the machine, so I had to hold it in one hand all the time which was very cumbersome.

I used an ordinary one hired from Boots, and really think it helped a lot. I used it from very early on, to allow the endorphins to start building, or whatever it takes to make it work!

I'm not sure I would have wanted anything more powerful than the one I had - they are quite poky when turned up full!

yes I found it useful in early labour. i did use the power boost button, but once the going got REALLY tough it didn't help much tbh

Just a thought that if you live in a sure start area, they should be able to loan you a tens instead of forking out for one and not knowing if it works for you or not.

Can't tell you if its worked for me yet as my lil one is too comfy to come out into this cold weather!

Hmmm I'm unsure myself this time about getting one, would echo what others have said, I thought it did nothing until I took it off! You will have to take it off if you want to have a bath/use a pool.

I used one for Ds2+3 and thought it was brilliant.

Both were quick labours and it was the only pain releif I used.

I'd recommend them to anyone.

i used one for dd and then again for ds. really good for early stages, not sure i could feel it once labour really kicked in... but kept it on anyway! would use again.
no problems with monitoring while using but had to take off when I went in the pool...

I also hired one from Boots and would do so again. Top tip: check it before you need it as ours had one pad that wasn't working.

I had a long labour the forst day I dind't use it but the second day I did and it def helped, Not much use once I was put on a drip to speed things up though - too many wires attached to me for a kickoff!
