What are your chucks called?

(80 Posts)

We have Enid, Sylvia, Cherry,Blossom,Rose and Fifi.

TunipTheVegedude Mon 06-May-13 20:51:01

My current lot are named after Jacqueline Wilson and some of her characters: as well as JW herself, we have Hetty Feather, Tracey Beaker and Biscuits.

Ours used to spell out h.e.n. henrietta, Erica and Norma but I gave up on that after many variations and named tem after plants....apart fom Fifi who just looks like a Fifi!

ChookKeeper Mon 06-May-13 22:04:19

We currently have Tori, Eggs and BB ('cos she has a bent beak).

we used to have a Fifi which was a nn for Ophelia (from HaOmlet), Lacy and Peggy.

Hazelbrowneyes Tue 07-May-13 11:41:42

Francesca (Cheska as a NN)

We had Susie too but she died sad

GibberTheMonkey Tue 07-May-13 11:55:28

Mine have all been named after relations. I've gone back quite a way now. I currently have Ellen, Florence, Nell, Violet and Maggie

Ahh, I like relatives. I debated Edna after my evil auntie but changed my mind as I thought it would be cruel to the chicken smile

Sorry to hear about Suzy hazel my first and favourite was henny. Still miss her.

SucksToBeMe Tue 07-May-13 22:58:23

We rescued 3, called them Faith, Hope and Charity.

We also had Crazy Chick who would sit with us on the sofa.

babyboomersrock Wed 08-May-13 20:14:12

I love chicken names!

JillJ72 Fri 10-May-13 22:49:42

We currently have Poppy (she's my grand dame, the only one of original four still with us). Her ladies in waiting are Blossom (named after apple blossom) and Bluebell - both plants flowering when they moved in. Last week we brought home two new girls, Coucou and Lavender. In chicken heaven are Rose, Amy (both named after the Doctor's assistants) and Pecky (DS chose her name, and supremely apt it was too).

We have Arwen, Artemis (Fowl - geddit?)and Ammon (Ammon Hen - a place in Lord of the Rings). Lame jokes, and geeky too <hangs head in shame>.

Molly, coco, Emily, Hattie, pineapple and Marjorie smile

LemonBreeland Fri 10-May-13 23:00:26

Mine are currently Persephone (Percy), Indigo, and Araminta Brick, known as Minty Brick.

Pixel Sun 12-May-13 19:02:07

Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup.

SimLondon Sun 12-May-13 21:10:52

I tend to just call mine by the breed or distinguishing features, so i have Ginger, the black one, little leghorn, and just got four new hens to go with them (tonight is the first nighttime they're been in together so must go and check on them).

The new ones are two heritage skyline's so will probably be called Nissan mk3 and Nissan mk4, one white leghorn and one silverlink.

MrsLettuce Sun 12-May-13 21:13:38

Susan, Mary and Gwen.

olivertheoctopus Sun 12-May-13 21:14:08

Steffanoid Sun 12-May-13 21:14:21

we have 4 named after my mums nieces and nephew, but it's still a hen iyswim

Great names! I wanted to call them after cocktails but dh said no- apparently he didn't want daiquiri, margarita and White Russian!!!

BinarySolo Wed 15-May-13 06:55:02

Can I join in? I have ducks not chooks! Mine are: Margot (another Goodlife fan here) and Daphne and Celeste.

Mine are tikka, madras, korma, and Maraget Hatcher.

rainbowsprite1 Wed 15-May-13 17:56:35

We started off with Dandelion, Daisy & Buttercup, then we added Bramble, Snowdrop & Coco

ComradeJing Thu 16-May-13 09:51:06

I hae stopped naming them as they keep falling off their perch.

We do have a coco, a buffy and a Dorcus (the dorking) but the new ones aren't named yet.

Letters Mon 20-May-13 20:15:22

Ours were Babs and Ginger from chicken run (rip ladies hmm) dd1 will be naming the next ones so who knows what they will be called. Her favorite name for teddies at the moment is Chesus Price (aka Jesus Christ) so might be that.... grin

Crikeyblimey Mon 20-May-13 20:19:08

Mine are Diana, Mary and Florence - cos they are the chicken Supremes!! They put on little gold sling backs and gold lame dresses in the night and sing in three part harmonies when no one is looking smile

However - we do have Maple too (ds named her) - I don't think she feels left out, I'm sure they let her try on the wigs and stuff.

Leilandri Mon 20-May-13 21:13:01

We have Donut, Patch, Banana and Ketchup.
All named by DS1 (3.6yrs) hmm
We did have Bogey too, but she turned out to be a he, so went to chook heaven sad

MrsTomHardy Mon 20-May-13 22:48:20

This group are Amber, Snuffles and Winnie

Lovely names everyone!! Love the supremes. Sylvia has a long cigarette holder and stalks round moaning about the slum she now lives in smile

Smugfearnleyshittingstool Mon 27-May-13 21:36:17

Our lovely flock don't all have names but the ones the kids have given names too are, Black ben, Darren, Dave, scraggy

Then we had cute baby day olds in march and called them daisy, daffodil and primrose .....now they are huge and do not suit girly names at all.....one is a cock....he is cAlled cocker!

Black Ben is currently sitting on ten fertile eggs so more names needed here soon.

BadRoly Mon 27-May-13 21:44:41

Ours have all been named by the dc. So we have Amy, Bluebell, Vanessa (Vanny) and Bob (which is my favourite chicken name).

Sadly Amber, Rebecca and HennyPenny are all dead now hmm

Cocker! Fabulous!

DD & I were going floral with Poppy, Daisy & Lavender when DH waded in with Lemon & Cashew-Nut.

Poetnojo Sat 22-Jun-13 00:04:35

We have a Gertrude, Molly and Purdy Burdy, we did have a henrietta but she actually turned out to be a Henry so we brought her back and exchanged her for the fore mentioned Purdy Burdy smile

MusieB Wed 26-Jun-13 11:19:55

BadRoly, we have a Bob too (she is a girl but we couldn't tell when she hatched). Also Poachy, Chickster, Twitter, Glimmer and Shimmer. All named by DD (10).

The posh birds-
Pricilla, Polly jean and Holiday

Past chocks-
Bubblegum, coconut, sugar (later Elvis when we found was a boy) meringue and Marshmellow.

Guess which I got to name and which was the DC? wink

MyBoysAreFab Tue 23-Jul-13 15:45:14

This is much more exciting than a babyname thread! I am looking after my friend's chickens and am now desperate to get some for us and call them Bunty, Beryl and Betsy. Maybe a Gladys too.

Before the foxes got them, we had a Noodle, Nugget and Drumstick.

DS has decided that if we try again, he wants to call one Jonny Cash.

kelpeed Sat 27-Jul-13 13:38:02

Blossom, Lilly, Nugget, Fried Rice.

Love all these names! Today we have just picked up our first ever 4 chickens :-D

However...names we're struggling on. I feel i need to get to know them first!

Although i quite like Olive and Willow so far. Willow because thats the name i really desperarely wanted for DD but i wasnt 'allowed'. I will have that name one way or another...

ShyGirlie Sat 05-Oct-13 21:29:53

Henrietta, Jennifer and Penelope.

Also know as Henny, Jenny and Penny. Love my girls and can't imagine life without them!

Rooster is called Tom John. He's so good to his girls! smile

pimmsgalore Mon 07-Oct-13 11:37:14

Well ours were named by the DC and are K, F and C confused

I love the fact that so many of the names are clearly representative of multiple owners!

We have Jasmine and Sapphire (named by me) and Halal (named by DP, after discussion both on MN and in RL about if that was a socially acceptable name)...

SheerWill Sat 12-Oct-13 11:30:41

We have two speckledy hens called Tikka and Nugget.

Cybercat Sat 12-Oct-13 11:34:59

I started with Betty, Doris & Edith but I never managed to allocate a name to each chicken (can't tell two of them apart) and now collectively refer to them as 'my ladies' or 'the thugs' depending on how recently they've beaten up the cat!

ours are called Pecker, White Bum and Bucket grin

Tallulah, Bob (a girl - named after blackadder), Poppy, Tuppence, Barbara and Captain Jack (also a girl named in homage to Mr. Hardness).

thlgrin at autocorrect.... Harkness.

That was an entirely different series.....

Slutter at Mr Hardness grin

noooo "sPlutter" blush

Yorky Sun 27-Oct-13 16:03:36

Habbibu Sun 27-Oct-13 16:54:43

We have Hakin (the name dd wanted to call ds before he was born), Silvey (dd's hen, named and spelt by her), and Solo, short for Hen Solo. If we get another it'll be Princess Layer.

Habbibu Sun 27-Oct-13 16:55:22

Or Chook Skywalker

ElleCloughie Fri 08-Nov-13 19:14:11

Ethel, Nancy and Peggy were our first three, and they were joined by Agnes, Phyllis and Doris - and all lost to Mr Fox earlier this year.

Our new hens are Ada, Iris, Jessie, Mabel and Winnie. The RIR chicks don't have names because we can't tell which are boys and girls yet. They are just referred to by the colour ring on their leg, as in "Yellow has got out of the bloody run again!"

When I was growing up we had some Light Sussexs called Korma, Madras, Kiev and Vindaloo.

Not looking forward to when DD is old enough to have input into the names of future chickens.

WhenWeMet Tue 03-Dec-13 11:02:34

This is a great thread. Some of the names are soooo cool!
When I first started I had Queenie, duchess and lady. Lady turned out to be a boy so was called doodle do. Sadly doodle and Queenie are no longer with us neither is Mable sad . we now have dutchess, glinder the good, elpheba, buffy the cockerel (buff in col our), Pru and red. We still have three to name.

Bella (the Belgian bantam)
Tahini (cream legbar)

interesting how often Tikka is used!
I love chicken names!

Did you really have a gay cockerel? because we thought we had a transgendered hen1

Matilda, Lydia (named after one of DS' best friends who moved away), Hazel, Rose and Ruby (named after DHs grandmother).

DieselSpillages Mon 12-May-14 19:36:28

I'm clearly lacking in imagination as mine are collectively called "chickens".

Talking of gay cockerels, we had a transgender chick that posed as a female for almost a year before we realised she was a he !

FrancesNiadova Sun 18-May-14 11:53:59

We have: Madonna, Beyoncè, Kylie & Lady Ga Vs, our, "groovy," chicks!

Cuppachaplz Fri 23-May-14 17:29:01

Ramone and Flo

Yorky Mon 21-Jul-14 18:17:59

The 3 we adopted form school after they'd hatched in DS2's classroom are now Sam, Jess and Ali, named after his teachers - Samantha, Jessica and Alison! The kids have no idea but I enjoyed watch him telling his teacher their names very seriously :D

MrsFruitcake Sat 23-Aug-14 10:35:15

When we first built the coop and the run, we had lots of girls - 10 in total. Now almost seven years on, we have two left - Barry and River Song. The others were all named by the children and were JoJo (after DSs favourite programme at the time, JoJo's Circus), Tess and Angel (my Bluebells), Rose Tyler, Amelia Pond, Hinge and Bracket (Rhode Islands) and Penny.

Thinking of re-stocking in the spring.

halfdrunkcoffee Sun 24-Aug-14 20:27:36

We currently have Hazel (sole survivor of the H-named ones), Bree (sole survivor of the Desperate Housewives quad), and Peppa, George and Suzy (DS loves Peppa Pig).
