Chicken keepers

Do anyone (other than Eglu) do a plastic chicken coop/run?

Because it is a fab idea - but too expensive

I love the whole power wash thing & my wooden hutch is dying - but I am broke

Actually you could do something with that

I think their version is a bit rough & ready but if you use cat doors for the cutout bits it would be better (I'd worry about children hurting their hands on the rough edges otherwise)

Now - should chickens be off the ground? If so - how far off the ground?

If I put it in a large run that might just work

What about a plastic dog kennel. The lids lift off for easy cleaning on most and although the entrance hole is a little large I am sure you could fashion some sort of door. Alternatively if you just want a couple of hens I think the compost bin idea is an excellent idea, they already have a little door and again a removable lid.

If anyone is looking for atop quality plastyic chicken coop rather than Omlet , take a look at Cole's Coops //www.colescoops.co.uk ( you wont be disappointed )

What about an oil storage tank. Loads on eBay for not much. We have just cleaned one out to use as a pig ark so could work for chickens too. We have used biljex used for boats to clean out the oil.

We made one out of an old plastic Wendy house, very robust

We shopped around for our's having decided that plastic was definitely the way forward. In the end we went for an Eglu Go UP (www.omlet.co.uk/shop/chicken_keeping/eglu_go_up/) This is Omlet's cheapest coop and actually seemed quite reasonable. I know they do more expensive ones if you have lots of chickens, but we only have two - and I really wanted their fox proof run and wheels so I could move it around the garden. We got it last year and I love it!

I know this thread is really old but it might be of use to someone.

We just got a recycled plastic one from arkus.co.uk

I know this is an old thread but I'd be interested to know what's around now. I'd love an Omlet but for a go up with small run and a walk in run it's over £1000!

Yup. I know its an old thread but would really like recommendations for a coop, but it must be able to accommodate an automatic door. Not sure if I can stretch to an omelet but if anyone has any up to date recommendations please...

There's still nothing new on the market in terms of plastic. I have just bought a wooden one from Chicken Coops Direct and they are fab, only issue is 2-3 month wait!

@MissFoodie

As above, we recently bought one from arkus.co.uk. It’s recycled plastic. Really pleased with it. And we only waited 4 weeks for it (in April during lockdown)

Do anyone (other than Eglu) do a plastic chicken coop/run?
