Do you do anything different in wet weather??

Today is the first day since we got our chickens that it has rained solidly all day. I'm feeling a bit sorry for them as they're all wet and bedraggled and look a bit miserable, I think one of them has a cold too. There's nowhere in the garden for them to shelter so the only place they have to get out of the rain is their coop, the run is open and all the hemcore is wet.

What does everyone else do?

I leave the greenhouse open for them to shelter in, plus there are lots of dense shrubs they like to shelter under. Chooks don't like the rain much and if they keep getting wet can get poorly and die. Chickens don't generally like using their coop as shelter in the day ime, so it might be an idea to rig some sort of day time shelter.

Mine all go back in their various sheds. I put lots of bark chippings down. Collect the eggs promptly because they will get mucky from the chickens' wet feet.

Hmmm, I did see on the Omlet website that people put old shower curtains etc over the run to keep it dry. I saw a very sweet wooden dog kennel in the pet shop today so I may get that for them.

If the sodding creatures ever get around to laying one of these mythical eggs of which you speak, I will be sure to collect it promptly!

I have bought a shower curtain today in advance of such an event, it was 99p from wilko's.

Feel sorry for them ,with their wet soggy feathers?

Nothing different, perhaps some extra greens?

Buy a blackrock chicken as they can withstand the wet. They have tight plumage which helps.
