My wonderful cousin - and DS's Godmother - is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for a charity called Dig Deep, a UK based charity that uses money raised from challenges such as this to provide renewable energy, improve sanitation and accessible, safe water throughout Kenya.

She is a Law student, and it is a group of university students that are doing this.

They're aiming to raise around £3000 in total. They're currently at just over £100. Even if you could donate 50p, or just spread the word around, it would be great. It's happening in August.

Here is the donation and information page; I'm so proud of her. I've always wanted to do something like this, but looks like I will never be well enough, so am advertising for them as much as I can grin

Kate have replied to your email, please feel free to delete if that's better.

Sorry to you all, she just asked me to spread the word around, and I said I would do what I could to help her. Very sorry.

Thank you to those who brought this thread to our attention, we'll be moving it to our Charities Noticeboard shortly.

I sponsor people for runs etc. Things that they have to put some training into and that mean all the money goes directly to the charity rather than a bloody nice trip away. If she were paying for the trip herself, and raising funds solely for the charity then I'd be more inclined to part with some cash. But why should we be paying for her flights and accommodation?!

She could eBay unwanted clothes, walk people's dogs, sell cakes etc to raise the money for those things.

i'm not sure but I don't think mn rules allow requests like this.
Could be wrong though.

I too would not sponsor.

I agree with other posters and would also not sponsor a complete stranger on the internet <shrugs>

Sorry, but but I hate this sort of thing.

"The minimum fundraising target for this trek is only £2,890. By raising this not only will you get the chance to take part in the challenge of a lifetime but you will also help transform the lives of thousands of people. Over half the money you raise will go directly towards Dig Deep’s work "

So sponsors are paying about £1400 directly to the person to have a fantastic experience in Africa. Why doesn't she do Lands End to John o Groats or something instead where all the money goes to what the charity does, rather than leaving the sponsors feeling uneasy about funding a glorified (very expensive) holiday.

Another one uncomfortable with people going off to do something wonderful and pleasurable as a fundraiser.

Admire the sentiment and admire the charity, but feel unable to support by sponsoring.

Good wishes also much appreciated grin

Xpost, missy!

I wish her good luck and bump for her. I think that more and more people are getting put off these things by the fact that half of it goes on the cost of doing it.
I hope she raises enough to do it.

Good on her. I never sponsor people for this type of thing because a lot of it goes towards the cost of the trip rather than the charity but I will go and have a look at the charity and donate a couple of quid there. Good luck to them though.
